Fort Hunt Weekly News

Principals' Corner

Parents and Guardians,

October is off to a wonderful start!  We have a lot of great things in the works, from math night to our book fair and story book character day!  Please check out our PTA website for more details at Fort Hunt Elementary PTA Calendar.

Another exciting program we are implementing is our Fort Hunt attendance initiative.  We want to celebrate students who are coming to school every day. Students who have perfect attendance each month will receive a certificate in their Wednesday Folder as well as have their name on the morning news show!

We also want to remind parents about the importance of sending their children to school every day. Check out the FCPS attendance website https://www.fcps.edu/attendance or https://www.attendanceworks.org/ for more information.

When you have a child who is absent or will be absent, please call the Fort Hunt attendance line, 703-619-2626 or email FortHuntESattendance@fcps.edu. Please provide the complete name of the student and the reason for the absence. If sick, provide the symptoms. If your child will be gone for several days or taking a trip, please also be in touch with the classroom teachers about collecting work to make up. If you are taking a trip, you must fill out a Request for Prearranged Absence form https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/forms/se291.pdf.

We want to see your child each day! Please be on the lookout in an upcoming Wednesday folder for fliers about attendance and celebration certificates!

Thank you and please contact us with any questions.

Yearbook Cover

Our yearbook theme this year will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Fort Hunt Elementary School. That’s half a century our school has been open to students! Students, use your creativity to design a yearbook cover drawing that honors this important milestone. The winner will be selected by Fort Hunt teachers and staff. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place winners will have their design on the back cover. Your drawings MUST:

1. Be on an 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper
2. Relate to our school’s 50th anniversary
3. Fort Hunt Elementary and 2019-2020 must be in your drawing
4. Include our mascot, Artie the Fox!
5. Be drawn by you, and NO TRACING!
6. Have your first and last name & grade on the back

Color pencils work best, but please, COLOR DARK! If your drawing is too light it will not transfer well!

We are excited to see what creative ideas you come up with! Please turn in your drawings to Mr. Green by Friday, November 1st.
