Students in Ms. Levan’s grade 5 science class were so engaged in performing Mantle on the Move experiment and it was just a blast!
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will participate in International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 2, in an effort to promote physical activity and reduce traffic congestion and pollution near schools.
Students and employees are encouraged to bike or walk to school and work on October 2. Parents are encouraged to accompany their children to school, and to work with their school and PTA or PTO to assemble bike trains or walking groups for the event.
Reflections
PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Students of all grades may participate and explore the arts based on the 2019-2020 theme "LOOK WITHIN". Students may choose one or more of the available arts categories: Dance, Film Production, Literature, Music, Composition, Photography, Visual Arts. Awards are made at the school, county, district, state and national levels. This contest is open to all students. Entry forms, rules, and additional information about the program are posted outside of the Reading Room. The Greenbriar East deadline is October 15th. Hand in your original Art with a completed Student Entry Form to the Reading Teacher, Julie Matyas. It is very important that your form can be read clearly, especially your e-mail contact. Submissions will be rejected if they do not include a completed and signed Student Entry Form or the entry does not comply with the national submission rules.

Calling All PTA Members: We Need Your Vote!
The upcoming PTA meeting on October 7th will begin with a vote regarding membership dues. The vote is to keep membership dues at the $20 that they’ve been advertised and collected so far this year. This is a $7.50 increase from last year, which the board decided on to help offset the discontinuation of several previous fundraisers, in part due to a change in FCPS policy regarding events that take place during school hours.
Without this increase, there will be cuts to some of our current programs and we likely won’t be able to offer some of the new, exciting things we’d like to plan in the future.
Please keep in mind that membership dues go toward our PTA’s mission to improve the education, health, and safety of our students! And we want to keep being able to treat our teachers well too! (Additionally, this membership fee is not out of line with other school PTAs within FCPS. Some are slightly lower, some are very much higher. But GBE is our school and the PTA board wants to do more for the students and staff, not less!)
So, members, please come vote YES on October 7th! If you have any questions, or would like further clarification, please contact vp@gbepta.com.
