Dear Marshall Road Families,
We are excited to share that Marshall Road has two therapy dogs who will become a part of our school community. There is much research to support the use of therapy dogs to help assist people with a variety of needs. Some of the benefits include: decreased anxiety, development of social skills, learned empathy, increased reading and writing levels and improved motivation. You may see either, Sasha, a 12-year-old Golden Retriever or Lucy, a German Shepherd around our school. These dogs will always be wearing their vests to indicate that they are fully trained therapy dogs. Both dogs went through extensive training and testing with TDI (Therapy Dogs International) to obtain this title.
Please know that to protect the health and safety of students, employees and visitors, all other animals are prohibited on school property. The only exceptions are for service animals. When walking your children to school or meeting them in the afternoon, make sure that you do not bring dogs onto the school’s campus. We appreciate you following FCPS regulations and keeping all students safe and our environment positive for all.
Next week we will work hard to introduce TEAMWORK AND CITIZENSHIP. We hope to teach your children to work as a member of a group or team. We want them to be loyal to the group and be willing to work towards the success of the common good as opposed to only working toward their own self-interest. Your children will be given many opportunities to work with partners and groups this school year. They will learn how to communicate with their classmates and teachers while becoming a positive citizen in our school. We hope they will learn to be loyal, dedicated, collaborative, reliable, cooperative and inclusive! “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, What are you doing for others?” Martin Luther King, Jr.
The PTA is hosting an Ice Cream Social and holding a PTA meeting this Monday, September 23. Please join other families on the blacktop at 5:00 pm for ice cream and fun. Parents are invited to come to the cafeteria to attend the PTA meeting starting at 6:30 pm.
Enjoy your weekend.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Heiges, Matt Chapman and Sue Kirby
