Dear Family Fairfax,

Does the weather get any better than it is right now?  I am holding out for good weather next Friday—when the dunking booth that was cancelled makes its return with my name written all over it!  Here is to hoping that we have warm weather next week as well—and any well wishes you can send my way would be greatly appreciated!

Today was our second Fairfax Friday, and though we know we have some tweaking to do to ensure it runs smoothly and is meaningful, I am so proud of the many staff members and students who have embraced this time as an opportunity to build community and share our passions with our students.  This is very new, but I know that with the right input, it will be so, so worthwhile.

Fairfax Fridays take place during one of our two Lion Time periods on our gray days.  Lion Time is a period that was designed to allow our students in need of additional support or time to be given that opportunity during the school day.  One of our challenges has been ensuring that students who are in need of additional support actually make their way to their teachers.  We are working on a structure that will help us better facilitate utilizing this time so that we overcome this challenge.  Please support Fairfax by asking your student how they are using their Lion Time.  When you check SIS ParentVue and see a missing assignment or assessment, consider asking your student how they might use their Lion Time to get a pass from those classes.  It is a team effort!

Next week is Homecoming, and I am looking so forward to the comradery and PRIDE that comes during this time together.  If you haven’t made plans, consider coming home and watching our parade Friday at 4 and supporting our school as we proudly march through our streets—it is truly a small representation of some of the very best we have at Fairfax each and every day!

Wishing you a beautiful weekend!

With Participation Respect Integrity Determination Empathy,

fashion design

FAIRFAX ACADEMY, Fashion Careers class highlight

Level-2 Fashion Careers students at Fairfax Academy all worked over the summer to create their design boards to include their collection designs for this year’s annual professional Fashion In Motion fashion show which will be held on May 2, 2020 at the Sherwood Center in Fairfax.

The students presented their board as a classroom presentation, and fellow level-2 students and the instructor gave constructive criticism in regards to the collection as whole. Students then took all of the feedback received, and reworked their entire collection to suit it for a follow-up submission.
