POSITIVITY PROJECT

P2

The Positivity Project characteristic of the week for next week is TEAMWORK.  Teamwork is the ability and willingness to place overall group success as a higher priority than individual achievement.  We will encourage our dolphins to display teamwork in different ways throughout the week.  #teamwork #otherpeoplematter

TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES

There are several technology resources for students to use at home.  They can be found on the Lake Anne website. Students log in with their FCPS username (student ID number) and password.  Students are required to change their passwords each year for best practices.  Please reach out to your classroom teacher if you need assistance with username and passwords at home.

SOUTH LAKES FOOTBALL

South Lakes is proud to have a strong athletics program and we love to see our future Seahawks at games.  At this time of the year, our football games are where we see students from many of our feeder schools. Young students should only be attending games under the supervision of an adult. Knowing these few guidelines will help make attendance at our events a positive experience for all attendees:

  • We do not allow guests to bring in large bags and/or book bags as well as outside food and drink.  We are not able to provide storage or hold aside any large bags/backpacks.
  • We do not have a large open space as some stadiums do to allow for tossing balls, playing chase or other activities that could impede the safety of others.
  • Guests are expected to follow adult directions (parent volunteers, administrative staff, police on duty). SR&R applies to students attending school activities on FCPS grounds.
  • After the event is over all guests should make their way home or to their next stop within 30 minutes. If you are picking up your student, please plan to do so  within 30 minutes of the end of the event from the stadium side parking lot.

For our first home game we had approximately 3000 people in the stadium between spectators and participants. Members of the South Lakes administrative team supervise these events to ensure the safety of our athletes, students and guests during the event and for a short period while the facility is being cleared.   Cooperation with these guidelines is appreciated.

CREATIVE & CRITICAL THINKING

Active learners are always questioning. Students who take responsibility for asking their own questions become more productive and engaged in their learning processes. Metacognition, or thinking about thinking, involves questioning our individual learning processes. Such questioning helps us solve problems by developing, implementing, and evaluating plans of action. Guiding the development of thinking skills in all students empowers them, increases their independence, and helps them develop to their maximum potential. Children always have a wealth of questions – encourage questioning in your child and work with them to find answers.

CAREER SWITCHER PROGRAM

The FCPS Office of Talent Acquisition & Management (TAM) will host a Career Switcher Information Session at the Willow Oaks Administrative Center on Monday, October 14, 2019. This event will give military veterans, community members and anyone interested an opportunity to learn how to become a licensed Virginia teacher.

The information session will begin with presentations from the five approved Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) career switcher programs, Educate Virginia, Old Dominion University, Regent University, Shenandoah University and Virginia Commonwealth University. Troops to Teachers will also present their program offerings to our military veteran attendees. A panel of FCPS educators will share valuable information with attendees, followed by an opportunity to network with the six presenters, the FCPS licensure team and the substitute office.

We would like you to share this event information with your school community, parents, FCPS employees and anyone in your network seeking information on becoming a licensed Virginia teacher.
