Donations Needed!
We are so excited that we were selected to be the first elementary school in Fairfax County to become an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) elementary school. One component of this program is building a culture of college and career readiness. We are collecting college or career swag to hang up in our cafeteria, gym, and throughout the building. We would love to have as many colleges represented that are a part of our families. If you have any “flare” such as pennants, t-shirts, stickers, etc. that you are willing to donate to decorate our walls please send them to the office. In addition, we are so excited to transform a room in our building into a Dorm Room which will be a place for principal lunch bunches and students can earn to go as an individual or class reward. We will be starting to put this room together Saturday, September 28th, from 8:00am - 12:00pm, if you are available to join us please contact Kemba Ephraim.

Fall for LCAC - A Family Volunteering Opportunity
Help your neighbors and volunteer as a family at LCAC's annual Fall for LCAC event. This food-raiser is a way to ensure that our neighbors have food throughout the winter and you can help! Bring a bag of non-perishable grocery items (kid-friendly food is most needed) and come to LCAC on Sunday, September 29th from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. LCAC is hoping to bring in 10,000 pounds of food and have more than 100 volunteers onsite helping. Kids as young as 4 can volunteer! Don't forget to join us at our first PTA meeting tonight, 9/19 at 6pm in the cafeteria for dinner and a presentation by the Fairfax County Public Schools Parent Resource Center on Tips for Success in the New School Year!
Casa Tequila Restaurant Night - September 25th
Come out to Casa Tequila Bar & Grill in Lorton Station for LUNCH OR DINNER on September 25th for our first restaurant night of the school year! The PTA will receive a portion of proceeds generated from dine-in. Diners must present a flyer in order for our school to get credit so keep an eye out on the website and save the flyer you received in your Thursday folder this week.
Support the PTA through Primary Clothing, Amazon Smile, and Box Tops
There are ways to support our PTA through normal activities. Also, whenever you shop on Amazon make sure you're using Amazon Smile and have your charity of choice set to Gunston Elementary PTA. Help Your Child win an Ice Cream Party!
If you haven't already, don't forget to join the PTA! To sweeten the membership deal, the PTA will be sponsoring an ice cream party for the class that has the most PTA members (students and teachers) by October 4. So join online through our website, return the registration form found in your child's back to school packet, or find us at our next event!

Free Family Movie Night: Aladdin (2019)
Tomorrow, September 20, 2019 from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm the PTA is sponsoring a Free Family Movie Night featuring Aladdin (2019). Pizza and Snacks are available for purchase. All proceeds support the Play Program. Students must be accompanied by an adult for the entire evening. We hope to see you there!
