LBSS Weekly News - 9/20/19

A Message from Dr. Smith

This week has been another exciting week of parents and students experiencing different aspects of Lake Braddock Secondary in a positive way.  Our girls volleyball team had a great win over Robinson on Tuesday night, we celebrated National Merit Commended and Scholarship students, and our High School Back to School Night was another opportunity for families to connect with their student's teachers.   We are looking forward to supporting our Golf team as they head to District competition.

This upcoming week will be our official Homecoming spirit week for both our middle school and high school students. There are activities occurring next week that will culminate with the Homecoming parade and Bite of Braddock on Friday before the varsity football game against Marshall and the homecoming dance on Saturday night for high school students.  We hope to see you and your family at our Homecoming events next week.

Food For Neighbors is an all-volunteer organization committed to helping local teens struggling with hunger. Last year, we were able to provide over 1500 weekend snack packs for Springfield area middle and high school students. If your student needs a snack pack (soup/pasta, crackers, granola bar, oatmeal, fruit snack and milk/juice) for the weekend, please email Meg Gollinger at magollinger@fcps.edu. There are several ways you can help with this organization:

  • With your support, we can reach even more students in need. Participation is as simple as filling a Food For Neighbors Red Bag once every other month and putting it on your porch on our pick up days. We provide the bags, a desired food list, and pick-up date reminder texts. Our next collection is October 26th. If you would like to donate food, please register as a Red Bag Donor today at: https://www.foodforneighbors.org/get-involved/request-a-bag/
  • We also need drivers to collect the food. If you are available a collection morning, we would provide a route for you (normally about 12 stops) and then you would drop the food off at Irving MS. You can pick which collection days work for your schedule. To sign up to drive, register at: https://www.foodforneighbors.org/get-involved/volunteer/
  • You can also help sort the food once it is dropped off at Irving. This is a great activity for families as children of all ages can volunteer. We need volunteers from 9:15-11:15am. Once you provide your information, a Sign Up Genius will be sent to you just prior to the event and you can decide if you would like to help that day. If you would like to help with sorting, please register at: https://www.foodforneighbors.org/get-involved/volunteer/
