Professional Learning Communities at Sangster ES

I joined a Collaborative Learning Team (CLT) to see how teamwork impacts student success.

Sangster ES is doing tremendous work around the Professional Learning Communities component of our Theory of Action. You'll recall that we rolled out the Theory of Action at this summer's Leadership Conference as a guide for how we will achieve Student Success and a Caring Culture.

Sangster has seen a 15 percent gain in the pass rates for students with special needs - an amazing accomplishment! Principal Lisa Reddel attributes much of that success to their CLTs. I sat down with the fifth grade CLT to hear how they work together to create a successful learning environment.

Please enjoy this short video and have a great week.

Field Day - Friday, October 18th

Hello Sangster Families, Fall Field Day is on Friday, October 18 and we will need volunteers. Signup genius information will be forthcoming.

4th – 6th grade – 9:45 – 11:30

1st – 3rd grade – 1:15 – 3:00

If we cancel Field Day, you will be notified through a News You Choose (NYC) e-mail.  The rain date is Friday, October 25th.

Thank you for all of your support!  The only way Field Day can be successful is through the work of our wonderful volunteers.  We appreciate all that you do!

Kindly-

Mrs. Tuebner & Ms. Hickey

Student Safety in the Morning and at Dismissal

Please help us with morning and afternoon traffic and student safety.  We have noticed speeding cars on Reservation Drive, cars making U-Turns in the middle of the street, adults on cell phones in the Kiss and Ride lane, and some drivers who are ignoring the adults outside trying to keep students safe.  Families who live in the neighborhood have voiced concerns as well.   Please obey all traffic safety laws.

All students at Sangster are considered a bus rider or a walker.

If students walk to or from school, please remind students to cross Reservation Drive at the crosswalk with the crossing guard, not in the middle of the street.

If you choose to drive your child to school or pick them up using Kiss and Ride, please help us with our traffic flow.

Below are also some tips to help make Kiss and Ride a smoother and more efficient process:

  • If you are turning onto Reservation Drive from school property, please make a right turn.  When parents make a left on Reservation Drive, it backs up traffic in the Kiss and Ride lane.
  • Please do not park on Reservation Drive between the No Parking signs or block driveways.
  • Our student safety patrols open car doors to assist students getting out of vehicles at Kiss and Ride.  The Kiss and Ride lane is only one lane, so please be patient and do not pass other cars.  This is for everyone’s safety.
  • Parents should not get out of their cars in the Kiss and Ride lane.
  • Students should exit the right side of the car, closest to the sidewalk.
  • If you are driving your student to school, please do not drop your child off on Reservation Drive and have them run across the street.  Please use the Kiss and Ride lane, or walk your child to the school using the cross walk.  This is for everyone’s safety.

Thank you for your assistance and patience when driving.

Positivity Project - Week of September 23

This week’s character strength is Teamwork. Teamwork is the ability and willingness to place overall group success as a higher priority than individual achievement. Citizenship is a willingness to work towards the common good as opposed to one’s own self-interest. Those with strengths in teamwork and citizenship often work to help all group members find success. These individuals are willing to commit time and resources to further group goals and help move toward the greater good.

This Coming Week’s Character Strength:     Teamwork

Next Week’s Character Strength:    Open-Mindedness
