Principal's Message
Last week we had a great turnout at the Parent Coffee on Tuesday and PTA meeting on Friday. It was great to see many familiar faces and welcome many new families who are already making connections. We are so glad to have all of you involved as partners in learning for our students.
We look forward to seeing everyone at Back to School night this Thursday. It is a great time to connect with your child's teacher as well as specialists within our school. As you visit, I encourage you to look for a few displays celebrating our students. We are showcasing our new Chesterbrook Chipmunks on the wall leading up to our library. It is great to learn more about our new students. In our foyer, you will find celebrations of Chesterbrook CARES and Positivity Project and a display of our summer reading stars will be located in our cafeteria. I am excited to celebrate the wonderful work of our students across our school building.
Sincerely, Stacy Kirkpatrick

Twitter and Instagram are great platforms for sharing photos and videos of students participating in learning and celebrating successes. For many teachers, administrators and professional educators across FCPS, including myself, using social media in a professional capacity allows us to give the Chesterbrook parents and community a lens into the amazing learning, collaboration, and creativity that takes place in our buildings.
I find that sharing educational practices, activities and lessons on social media accounts serve as opportunities to actively participate in valuable professional development that is available to educators on social platforms at no cost. Also, uncovering relevant, innovative instructional practices or resources for our school help us learn and grow.
Rest assured that our use of social media in a professional capacity will not detract from students’ learning and will not include photos of students that have been opted out. If you have any questions about your child being featured in FCPS social media post(s), please let me know. Parents have the right to opt their child out of photos and furthermore social media. You may do so by accessing page 10-11 of the FCPS opt out forms found here.

Family Life Education Instructional Program Information
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve. Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.
Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices. If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt out forms will be included in your child’s back-to-school/orientation packets and are available online for Elementary (K-6) https://www.fcps.edu/academics/elementary-school-academics-k-6/elementary-family-life-education , Middle School (7-8) https://www.fcps.edu/academics/middle-school-academics-7-8/family-life-education-fle, and High School (9-12) https://www.fcps.edu/academics/high-school-academics-9-12/family-life-education-fle. Please fill in the opt-out form and return it to your child’s school prior to Family Life Education instruction.
Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online at Elementary (K-6) , Middle School (7-8) , and High School (9-12).
