 A Note From Your Principals
Hello Bonnie Brae families,
It's hard to believe we've been in school for almost a month now! Routines and procedures are well under way and many students are quite comfortable around the building. The first BTSN was a huge success! Thanks to all of the families for your participation! Teachers appreciate being able to collaborate with you as often as possible.
Preschool Playground
The preschool playground construction is set to begin soon! We are so excited that our youngest Scotties will have a place to play and ride their tricycles! More information will be coming soon along with pictures. Our second graders submitted a lot of great ideas on how to create a safe space for our preschoolers to play! Thank you for being so very thoughtful!
Lockdown/Fire drills
During the first month of school, fire drills are conducted weekly. Lockdown drills are also conducted frequently. We vary the times so that the drills aren't predictable. We know that this can cause a delay in early dismissal. We appreciate your flexibility as we teach everyone how to exit the building quickly and safely. If you happen to arrive during a drill, we must complete the drill before removing students from classrooms. Once we return to the normal school schedule we will work quickly to have your student report to the office for early dismissal.
Advanced Academics
A parent information meeting will be held at Bonnie Brae Elementary on October 8, 2019 at 9 am and again at 6 pm. Our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART), Mrs. Kaitlyn Burg will provide information about the continuum of services available to FCPS students. Additionally, you will have an opportunity to ask questions and receive answers about the screening process for part-time school-based and full-time Level IV services. Please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Burg with any questions you might have at kmburg@fcps.edu
Kind regards,
Mrs. Cage, Principal
Mrs. Bennink, Assistant Principal
Mrs. Killingsworth, Assistant Principal
“Hi Bonnie Brae families! I’m Sophia Antoci (aka: Ms. A) and I’m the school psychologist at Bonnie Brae this year. I recently moved here from southern California and am so excited to be a part of the FCPS and Bonnie Brae community… and best of all in the beautiful state of Virginia! As the school psychologist, I help our school support our students’ mental health, learning, and behavior, to help them succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. I am passionate about promoting healthy and positive school climates and am grateful I am able to be a part of that here at Bonnie Brae this year. I look forward to meeting and working with you and your children this year. Have a wonderful year!”

Severe Allergies/No Birthday treats
We have a number of students at Bonnie Brae with Life Threatening Allergies. Many of them include, but are not limited to foods with egg, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, dairy, sesame seeds, shell fish, etc. We will send home a letter to the students in each class where a known life threatening allergy exists once we have the parent's permission. We will ask for your help to ensure no sharing of food and or snacks. Birthday Treat Policy 2019-2020: The Robinson Pyramid principals met with our health teams and determined the number of students with life threatening allergies is growing at an alarming rate. With that information, we want to do all that we can to keep all students safe. We have shared this information in our newsletters and asked for your input as well as staff. We have determined that we can no longer allow edible treats for birthday celebrations. Some of the suggestions you've given us for alternatives have been great. For example, purchase a new game for indoor recess, surprise your student and be a guest reader, birthday pencils or new books for the classroom to name a few. Each classroom teacher may add to this list to make it meaningful for their students and or grade level.
