Homecoming is Approaching
Robinson’s Homecoming Week will take place September 23rd – 27th. Please encourage your child to participate in any and all homecoming events. There will be a competition between 7th and 8th grade to find out which is the most spirited. Students can earn points by attending Homecoming activities, dressing up for spirit days, attending the dance, and buying a Homecoming t-shirt. Read the information below to get caught up on all things Homecoming.
Dance: This year’s homecoming theme is Candyland! Join us at the middle school dance on Thursday, September 26th from 3:00-4:30pm in the Blue and Gold Cafeterias. No special attire required. Late buses are available. No other activities will be held this day. Join us at the dance!
Tickets: $10.00 | includes pizza, water, and a snack. The dance will have a DJ, photo booth, lawn games, crafts, and video games! Buy tickets through MySchoolBucks (Students must keep the receipt and bring it to the dance)
Spirit Days: Everyday has a candy-related theme. During lunches, student government members and middle school administrators will judge the “best dressed” and award a prize during each lunch shift to the most spirited students.

Middle school students must be accompanied by an adult to high school athletic events. No backpacks or outside food or drink allowed.
Homecoming T-Shirts: Friday, September 27th is “Sugar Rush Day” when students wear their grade-level designated color. Middle school is gray. Homecoming t-shirts will be sold to all grade levels in the various colors. Seniors – Black, Juniors – Blue, Sophomores – Gold, Freshmen – White.

The Basics!
Activity Period: 3:00 to 4:25pm
Start Date: Late bus service begins on 9/16 for teacher delivered academic support and select programs. Most activities begin on or later than 9/23.
Late Bus Service:
Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday; departing at 4:45pm.
Late bus routes are posted in each sub school office window and on grade level Google Classroom sites.
Activity Sign-up Procedure:
If instructed on schedule, students sign-up on the café stage during their lunch period each day they plan to stay after. Select programs required registration due to program design and attendance commitment.
Parent Reminder!
The After School Program registration form must be completed in order for your student to participate in any after school clubs, activities, or special events. All middle school students must be in a supervised after school program from 3:00 to 4:25pm.

Arena Stage Voices of Now Program
Registration is now OPEN!
Robinson is honored to host the Voices of Now (VON) theater arts after school program, offered through a partnership with Arena Stage, D.C.'s oldest and largest producing theater!
Learn the tools of theater performance, such as movement, vocal expression and collaboration, by taking a series of workshops in the fall. Participants who attend a full series are eligible to audition for the exclusive Voices of Now Robinson School Ensemble, which meets from February through May at Robinson. Ensemble members work with professional actors and directors to study acting and to write an original play performed at Arena Stage.

There are no date conflicts with the musical production for those wanting to participate in both programs. Register soon as space is limited!

Drama Programming | Interest Meeting 9/16
An interest meeting is planned for Monday, 9/16 in Davala Hall from 3:00 to 4:25pm for all after school theater arts programs, including the musical production, Arena Stage Voices of Now workshops and theater sports! Students will hear from drama teacher and musical production director, Amy Hard, as well as teaching artists from Arena Stage. Registration materials and important dates will be shared.
No lunch time sign-up is needed, but students should plan to stay for the entire meeting. Late bus service will be available, departing Robinson at 4:45pm.

Athletics
Basketball intramurals will begin the week of 9/23 on Mondays and Wednesdays. A PE uniform is required and students should plan to secure their belongings in a PE locker before meeting the coaches in the gym by 3pm.

Soccer intramurals will begin the week of 9/23 on Mondays and Thursdays. Cleats and shin guards are optional and should not be worn in the gym. Backpacks are allowed to be carried to the field and PE uniforms are not required. Meet Coach Reaman in the gym by 3pm.

Ceramics Club
Middle school ceramics club will provide students with an introduction into the basic techniques of hand building and wheel work. Multiple approaches to surface decoration will also be explored and ranging from primitive pit-firing to cold finishes. Students will learn to create functional pottery and sculptural forms while studying the aesthetics of historical and modern day masters.

National Jr. Honor Society
The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) introduction meetings for all qualified candidates will be held on Monday, September 30th and Monday, October 7th in the Gold Cafeteria from 3:00-4:25pm (late buses available). NJHS candidates include students that had a 3.5 or higher GPA in 7th grade. Letters were sent home on Friday, 9/13. If you are new to Robinson and you qualify, bring a copy of your transcripts or final report card to Mr. Burns in A110. Candidates MUST attend ONE of the two introduction meetings, where we will discuss the rest of the requirements to become an NJHS inductee, sign up to Google Classroom and x2VOL accounts, and receive dates and information about future meetings. Attending ONE of these meetings is mandatory and the first step in becoming a future inductee to the Robinson chapter of National Junior Honor Society.
