Dear Waynewood Owls,
It’s Friday the 13th and a full moon…and we still had an amazing day! It was nice to have a brief reprieve from the heat as well…hopefully more fall weather will be on the way soon!
Last night at the FCPS School Board meeting Waynewood was recognized twice! We earned the Virginia Board of Education Distinguished Achievement Award, and we received a School Board Resolution in honor of our 60th Anniversary. The resolution was submitted by our School Board Representative, Karen Corbett Sanders, and approved unanimously by the School Board. It was a great night to be an Owl!
Our 60th Birthday Celebration is just 2 weeks away. If you haven’t heard, on Friday, September 27, from 6:00-7:30 pm we are hosting an open house birthday celebration and the whole community is invited! Tell your neighbors and friends to join you! We will have food trucks, birthday cake, a short ceremony with a slide show, and a display of Waynewood history. You will be free to check out our beautiful new building. The cafeteria will be open for you to eat in, but you can also bring a picnic blanket and find a spot to eat. It will be a great opportunity to celebrate our birthday and the end of renovation. The students will be participating in the Jog-A-Thon that day, and we hope they will wear their t-shirts to the evening event as well.
Speaking of the Jog-A-Thon, a huge thank you to all of those who have donated to our PTA fundraiser! The competition between classes is heating up, and the kids are excited to participate in the event. If you would like to donate, you can find the donation page (and class leaderboard) here: https://www.wizathon.com/waynewood-jogathon/?id=4206
We have also had some exciting developments in our courtyard this week! We have trees! And boxwoods! Our trees arrived and were planted in the courtyard today. We would like to thank our PTA SEED committee for all their hard work over the summer and in the past few weeks. New garden beds and work tables seem to have magically arrived, but we know it took a lot of hard work and time to build those.
As a reminder, Door 3 will open to walkers on Monday. Thank you for your patience, and hopefully this will be the last adjustment we will need to make this year (fingers crossed!). If you plan to use this door, please make sure your child’s teacher is aware of the change.
One more quick reminder…Wednesday, September 18th is Picture Day! Start picking out those perfect outfits now!
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Katie Cachine, Principal
Alice Berenbaum, Assistant Principal
If you plan to pick your child up early from school, we ask that you do so before 3:30 pm. It is extremely challenging to dismiss students after that time, as the office staff is preparing for dismissal. Thanks for your help!
