Jackson Journal 9.15.19

Message from Principal Magliola

Dear Jackson Families,

Seeing you at Back To School Night this year has been a memorable highlight to the great start of this school year. I hope you had many opportunities to speak and connect with your child's teachers throughout the course of the evening. Our teachers took tremendous pride in making our phone call invitations, and having you in the building on Tuesday was an affirmation that we all have the same vision; to ensure our students have every support they possibly need to have success. Thank you to our volunteer translators and we look forward to seeing all of you throughout the year.

I apologize this Jackson Journal is getting to you a little later than in my previous editions. Beginning this evening, you can expect the Jackson Journal to be delivered on Sunday evenings between 8 to 8:30 pm in preparation for the coming events each week. Our goal is to keep you up to date with as relevant as possible information regarding academic and social events taking place at Jackson MS. Please make sure you read our full edition and see all of the wonderful events coming up. You will begin receiving updates from Mr. Hoffert regarding our LJMS After Hours program beginning at the end of September. As always, if you have any questions, please let me know.

Finally, you may have heard our teachers share their "why" with you this week during your time in the building. In reflecting this week on my "why," the connections I have made with our students during classroom visits remind me that our commitment to building strong relationships is the key driver in our work and will lead to greater outcomes for our school. Our students present us with an incredible opportunity to ignite a lifetime of learning for each of them as they spend over 1000 hours with us each year. Now that we have taken our next steps in further establishing a culture of belonging at Jackson, we will guide our students in embracing that vision for themselves.

Sincerely,

Michael Magliola, Principal

In Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), the CogAT is used in grades 2-7 as a part of the screening process for Advanced Academic Program (AAP) services. Every Day Counts! Absences Add Up

FCPS is looking forward to a great school year! Regular attendance is essential for students to form positive peer and adult relationships and to learn. In fact, when students miss significant amounts of instructional time, they tend to lose momentum academically.

We do monitor each child’s attendance daily and will contact a parent if a child does not arrive at school or class as expected. Of course, there are times that students may have health or other concerns that may prevent them from being present. Please call the attendance line at 703-204-8282, for Spanish press 2. You can also report an absence by using this online form or emailing the attendance office at LutherJacksonMiddle.Attendance@fcps.edu

More information about FCPS’ attendance expectations is available online.

attendance counts!
