Back To School Night, Classes 2021 and 2022

Back to School Night Info for 9/11/19

Dear TJHSST Parents and Guardians of Classes 2021 and 2022:

We have had a truly outstanding opening to the school yearl!  Many thanks to all our parents, students, teachers and staff for contributing to such a smooth launch.

We're ready for our second Back to School Night (BTSN) as we host families of sophomores and juniors tomorrow, September 11. The first BTSN was September 5 for the freshman and senior classes. Because we are unable to accommodate parking for all grade levels on a single night, we arranged two sessions to ensure safety and make your experience more enjoyable.

You may access BTSN information on our web page. You will find the bell schedule, fillable schedule forms, and other helpful resources.

Date: Thursday, September 11

Time:  5:00-7:00 p.m.

Guests: Parents and guardians of 10th & 11th grade students

Community Connections: PTSA, Booster groups and TJ Partnership Fund tables will be set up to accept memberships and donations before, during and after classroom visits.

Please ask your child to review their schedule with you, including travel shortcuts from class to class.  Student schedules with teacher names and rooms are accessible in SIS ParentVUE and printed copies will be available, as well.  If you have more than one student at TJ and cannot attend both schedules of classes, teachers have also been asked to follow-up with all parents with a summary of what was covered in their presentations that you may have missed.

Family Life Education (FLE) materials will be available in the Library for review from 4:30 until 6:00 p.m. Health/PE and Social Studies representatives will be available at 4:30-5:00 p.m. in the Library to answer your questions concerning FLE content and delivery. Parents can always contact their child’s PE or Social Studies teacher with specific questions about the FLE curriculum or content that will be covered at any time.

PLANNING YOUR COMMUTE:

  • Please try to arrive on campus after 4:20 p.m. so we may safely dismiss all our buses and drivers.
  • It is safer to access TJHSST when you approach Braddock Road from Little River Turnpike. It is easier from this direction, than from the beltway, to make a right hand turn onto our campus or the satellite lot at nearby Weyanoke Elementary School.
  • Build in walking time as you may need to park at a satellite location.

IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT PARKING:

  • Parking on site will be available behind the school, in the bus depot between the school and the stadium, along the access road Minor Lane next to the stadium, and in the small paved lot near the ticket booth.
  • We’ve requested four police officers to assist with traffic flow and any other parking concerns that arise.
  • When the on-site parking lots become full, and they will, we have also secured the parking lots at both Weyanoke Elementary School and Holmes Middle School, each a short walking distance from TJHSST.
  • The gate will be open between TJHSST and Weyanoke properties for families to be able to walk straight onto our campus.
  • Approaching Braddock Road from Little River Turnpike, Weyanoke ES is on your right and Holmes MS is a left turn down Montrose Lane about 200 yards. For navigation purposes below are the addresses for each satellite location:

Weyanoke Elementary School: 6520 Braddock Road, Alexandria VA

Holmes Middle School: 6525 Montrose St, Alexandria, VA

It is our mission to inspire joyful learning while maintaining a healthy balance in life. Teachers are excited to share with you their goals and expectations, along with how they will support your child.

We look forward to seeing you at our Back to School Night!
