7th Grade Science

We have had a great week of teaching and learning this week.  7th grade students had the opportunity to observe our green space in the front of the building as part of their science class.  Our Senior Golfers celebrated Senior Day this week and our Band Students will be out this Saturday for TAG Day.

Next week we are hosting our High School Back to School Night.  Parents of 9th graders are invited to join us from 5:30 pm to 6:15 pm to learn about graduation requirements and how to help your student develop a growth mindset.

Below there is important information regarding PSAT Day for high school students.  PSAT day is October 16th, and all students will be released 2 hours early.

The most fun night of the year is in need of some key volunteers.  The All Night Grad Party takes place graduation night from 11pm – 5am, traditionally at Audrey Moore Rec Center (Wakefield Park), this year June 9-10, 2019.  It is an alcohol/drug-free event designed to keep celebrating graduates off the road and in a safe, secure place on one of the highest risk nights for teenage deaths.

9th grade info night

PSAT/NMSQT TESTING NOTICE

Wednesday, October 16, 2019 will be a two-hour early release for all students at Lake Braddock Secondary school in order to administer the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) to 10th and 11th grade students. During this time, 12th grade students will attend a senior class meeting in the Little Theatre and 9th grade students will participate in an academic and career planning unit. Middle school students will follow their purple day schedules on a modified two-hour early release bell schedule.

FCPS will provide the PSAT/NMSQT to tenth and eleventh graders without cost. As students sit to take this test, they will participate in an introductory session, where they will be asked to complete an optional pre-survey from the College Board. You may view the optional pre-survey questions online (https://www.fcps.edu/node/36640) and access the pre-survey parent opt-out form on the LBSS PSAT testing website (https://lakebraddockss.fcps.edu/high-school/psat_test).

Taking the PSAT/NMSQT test in tenth and eleventh grades helps to prepare students for success with the SAT college entrance test. All students who complete the PSAT/NMSQT will receive an individual score report, providing feedback based on their responses to the test questions. This will be helpful to tenth graders in preparing to take the PSAT/NMSQT again in eleventh grade and students preparing to take the SAT. When scores are released in late January, students will have access to Khan Academy's (https://www.khanacademy.org/) free online test preparation, which is customized based on their PSAT/NMSQT scores.

If you have any questions about the PSAT/NMSQT testing at Lake Braddock Secondary, please contact Jennifer Bury, Assessment Coach at jabury@fcps.edu.

Applications for TJHSST are Available Now!
If you’re interested in applying to Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, commonly referred to as “TJ,” we would like to provide you with some important information. You must be in 8th grade and enrolled in Algebra 1 or higher to apply.

We hosted a TJ Admissions specialist, Mrs. Sperling, on September 3rd, who presented about the school and application process. If you missed the presentation or would like a copy of it, you can view a PDF of the presentation here: https://lakebraddockss.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/inline-files/TJHSST%20Fall%202019%20Presentation.pdf

If you have decided to apply, the online application is now open and you can begin the application process here: https://www.fcps.edu/registration/thomas-jefferson-high-school-science-and-technology-admissions/freshman-winter

There are several important dates to keep in mind, so scroll down on the link that is provided and mark your calendars. There is one additional date for Lake Braddock students: Please START the application by September 20th, 2019.
