MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL-UPDATES

Dear Parents and Guardians:

The past two (short) weeks have been productive for our students.  We have issued over 2400 laptops to our students, and our teachers have begun incorporating their use into their lessons.  The challenges of navigating Westfield have diminished for many of our students, and we are well on the way to establishing good routines for learning and school life.

We will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 – October 15.  Our students and staff have taken the initiative to plan several activities to inform and educate our school community about their former home country and its’ culture.  You will be able to see some of the activities on our Westfield Live program and Twitter.

Please continue to check on your student’s academic and social progress in our school.  Many clubs and organizations have had or will have interest meetings in the coming weeks.  If either you or your student has a Twitter account, monitor it for upcoming interest meeting dates and times.  You can also get notifications of meetings on the Westfield APP.  Connections students make with the school through activities, clubs and organizations can be another road to success for your student.

Finally, Homecoming (HC) Week is September 16-20.  I encourage you to attend our HC Parade starting at Stone MS on Friday, September 20 at 4:00 p.m. Those participating, need to be at Stone MS by 4:00 p.m., the parade starts promptly at 4:45 p.m. The football game versus Lake Braddock SS is at 7:00 p.m.  The HC Dance is Saturday, September 21 at 7:00 p.m. at Westfield.

News and Information

Westfield counselors will be meeting with all senior students through their Government class September 16-19 to discuss post-secondary options, the college application process, requesting their transcripts, sending test scores and all other pieces of the college process.  Students will also get to spend time in the College and Career Center learning about all the resources available to them as they narrow down their post-high school plans.

To follow up on these presentations, counselors will then meet individually with their seniors from English class September 19-25 to discuss their post-secondary plan, assist with any questions, and provide support as they make plans for after high school.  Students should come prepared to discuss what options they are considering and bring lots of questions.  Remember, counselors are here to help!
