Request to Expunge High School Course Taken in Middle School – Current 9th Grade Students Only
Parents of students who take a high school credit-bearing course in middle school may request that the grade be omitted from the student’s high school transcript and the student not earn high school credit for the course. Parents must make this request no later than the end of the first nine weeks of the school year following completion of the course. For courses completed in 8th grade, parents of current freshmen must make the request no later than the end of the first quarter. Once expunged, a course cannot be reinstated. The Request to Expunge form must be completed to make this request. Please contact your child’s school counselor if you would like to discuss expunging a course.
Band Tag Day - Saturday, September 14, 2019 - 9am-4pm
The annual McLean Band Tag Day is this Saturday, September 14 from 9am-4pm! McLean Band students will be in uniform and out in our community, neighborhoods, and shopping centers. They will be collecting donations that will be used toward equipment, travel, music, supplemental instruction, and supplies - all of which make our program the award-winning organization that you all know and love! Please give generously! We thank you in advance for your support of the Arts at McLean High School!
Deadline for Changing Classes is Friday, 9/13
Currently students are still able to change their elective and/or the level of their course, if there is space available in the course they wish to switch into. This open class change period will end on Friday, September 13. At that point we will have all students stay with their schedule until the end of the first quarter, at which time our schedule change committee will look at schedule change requests on a case by case basis. In order to have a schedule change considered at the end of the first quarter or beyond, students will start by discussing the change with their counselor and completing a schedule change packet. Please contact your School Counselor if you have any questions.
Free and Reduced Meals Application
The Free and Reduced Meals application is now online. Families must re-apply every year to receive this service. More information and a link to the application can be found at: https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/food-and-nutrition-programs/free-and-reduced-price-meals. Please also complete the consent to share information (section 4 of the application) as this can allow the school to waive course fees and receive reduced fees for other activities. If families do not re-apply their number will be inactivated in early October.
Senior Ethics Day - September 10
The class of 2020 will attend Ethics Day at the McLean Community Center on September 10, 2019 from 7:50 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Students will arrive to McLean High School for breakfast and opening remarks before departing to the McLean Community Center. Transportation and lunch will also be provided. Ethics Day is formatted as a business-style seminar for seniors, focusing on real-life examples of how to make ethical decisions in everyday life, exploring ethical decision making, and learning about themselves through scenarios.
A letter outlining Ethics Day was mailed home the week of August 12, along with the permission form on the back of the letter. Completed permission forms should be turned in to each student’s government teacher this week. Forms are due on Friday, August 30.
