News You Need to Know

Thank you to all parents, guardians and family members who joined us last evening for the 2019-2020 Back to School Night. We understand how busy family life is, and juggling schedules can be hectic! It was a successful evening.

Family Life Education (FLE) Instructional Program Information

FCPS provides a comprehensive, sequential FLE program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve. Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.

Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, non-punitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices. Opt-out forms will be distributed during Advisory on Tuesday, September 10, and are also available online at Forms. Return the form ONLY IF you are opting your student out of any part of the program.

Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online at High School (9-12). FLE grade level-specific lessons and media that FCPS has streaming rights for are available for parents online in FCPS 24-7 (Blackboard) Parent Vue

IB MYP Personal Project in 10th Grade

MYP

Our 10th graders will be restarting their personal project this month. The personal project in IB is the capstone of the Middle Years Program (MYP) and allows for free inquiry of any topic students choose. Here at Edison, we pride ourselves on the fact that all our students, regardless of needs, are afforded the opportunity to complete this project. Their project is tied to their advisory pass/fail grade, so be on the lookout on our IB webpage for the updated “Class of 2022” scoring handout.
