Health Room Volunteers Needed

volunteer

The Oak Hill Health Room is looking for volunteers.  We especially need your help for Vision and Hearing Screening which will be held on October 8 from 9:00-12:00. Every year every Kindergarten and 3rd grade student will have vision and hearing screening.  If you can spare a couple of hours to help us out it would be greatly appreciated and help the days go much smoother.  In addition, we need volunteers to come in and help the Health Aide with some day-to-day tasks and basic care for students.  Sometimes we need help if the Health Aide needs to do some filing or if the health room is very busy.  You need to complete a 2-3 hour Health Room Volunteer Training prior to helping the health room. To sign up for the training, please contact Juliana Rampersad at jtrampersad@fcps.edu.

FLE Parent Preview Night

Students in grades K-6 participate in Family Life Education (FLE) instruction through their classroom teacher. Students in K-3 receive instruction in an emotional and social health unit. Students in grades 4-6 receive instruction in a human growth and development unit and an emotional and social health unit.

There are no changes to the FLE lesson objectives for the 2019-2020 school year.  For more information about the FCPS Family Life Education program, please see the detailed grade level program descriptions here

In addition, grade level-specific curriculum lessons are available for review in multiple locations.

  • Online in FCPS 24-7 (Blackboard) Parent View. Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream media online.
  • Fairfax County Regional Library in the City of Fairfax (this location does not have media).

You are invited to attend an evening opportunity to preview the Family Life Education media and lessons and to talk with school staff about the program. The meeting will be held at Oak Hill on October 9 from 5:00-6:00p.m. All program materials and media for all grade levels will be available for your review at this time.

Oak Hill Library Parent Volunteer Opportunities

If you are interested in helping in your child’s library, we have the following options for you to choose from:

  • Shelving and shelf maintenance:  Come on your own schedule during the school day and help with shelving books and making sure our shelves are in order.  This makes it easier for our kids to access the books they want!
  • Check out books to students:  Help is needed every Wednesday throughout the day.   If you’re interested in helping in this capacity, please contact me to schedule the time.  You will scan books on student library accounts as they come to the circulation desk with their book choices.
  • Book Fair:  This will take place Oct. 21-25.  Volunteers will be needed during that week and the week before. You may hang signs, help set-up, assist with point of sale, or help pack up the fair at the end.

If you are interested in getting involved in the library, we would love to have your help in these areas.  Training will be provided!

Please contact Jenny Henry or Billy Germain at 703-467-3511 or jlhenry@fcps.edu.

Sporting Goods Collection

My name is Liam Reardon and I am senior at Chantilly High School. I am approaching the rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 158 and for my project I wanted to do something that would involve the whole community. My project is a collection of used sports equipment which I will donate to my beneficiary, Leveling the Playing Field - a non profit organization that collects and distributes used sports equipment to underprivileged communities. Leveling the Playing Field accepts most types of equipment except for bicycle equipment, clothing and uniforms, hats, and sneakers (however cleats are accepted). I will have a collection box placed in the front lobby of the school from 9/9-9/30. I would greatly appreciate your help with my project. More information can be found here.  For further questions please email me at Lmreardon00@gmail.com. Thank you in advance for your support.

Stay Updated

To get latest updates on PTA activities and events, like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter .

We as a PTA make every effort to send registration links to our pledged members. As pledged members, you get access to registration 1 week before we open it to general members. We have a process to send the registration link to our pledged members that takes time. So we request that you please be patient and do not send disruptive emails to our board members. If you did a membership pledge during workday, you will get the link the next day. Please do not demand for link immediately after registration. We have a process and we cannot break it.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.
