We welcome Gail Kinsey, Interim Assistant Principal to Westlawn ES. She is enjoying our students, teachers, and families. We are fortunate to have her with us.
School Safety Drills
The Code of Virginia (Section 22.1-137), the Virginia Administrative Code Section 8VAC20-131-260, and the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code Section 405.2 require that every public school shall conduct a fire drill once a week for the first 20 school days of the school session, and then once a month for the rest of the school year. Additionally, schools are required to conduct four lockdown drills during the year and a tornado drill. Westlawn successfully conducted its first two fire drills and will conduct its first lockdown drill on Friday, September 6, 2019. For more details on various safety drill requirements, please see FCPS Regulation 8633.9. https://www.fcps.edu/policies-and-regulations

We welcome Mrs. Kinsey, Interim Assistant Principal
Westlawn is fortunate to have three administrators. Most elementary schools with less that 1,000 students only have two. We are thankful to our Region 2 Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Zuluaga for his continuous support. Mrs. Kinsey joined the Westlawn Community in mid-August after our assistant principal was promoted to principal in August 2019. Mrs. Kinsey is an experienced educator of over 30 years. She will be with us for the year. Recently in September, our second assistant principal took another position for personal reasons. We have advertised for the vacancy. In the meantime, we have another experienced administrator joining us in the next week. We are dedicated in providing the best educational supports for your child, our teachers and you, our families. We strive to keep you informed of events and hope this message helps you in answering any questions. As always, please do not hesitate to call (703) 241-5100, if you have further questions. Sincerely, Ms. Ferguson
