A Note Regarding College Board AP Exam Schedule and Fees

Dear Justice Parents:

I want to take this opportunity to inform you all of two changes in College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) Program, beginning this new school year.

As you know, students are issued a school laptop for their use throughout the year. Coincidentally, College Board has also moved to an online platform. This new platform provides online resources to students in the form of progress checks, a question bank of previously released questions, and links to additional resources for more in-depth investigation. All AP teachers are enrolled in the program and will give their students a join code for their course so they can access the materials. We are thrilled by what we have seen available through this new platform and are fortunate that it dovetails so neatly with the student issued laptops.

Secondly, with the new online platform, students are being asked to commit to taking the AP exams for their course earlier than before: October 25th.   The opt-out letters will be sent home the week of October 1 and will be due by October 25th.  Fairfax County Public Schools will pay for the first 6 AP exams for the associated course of a student’s school career, and any additional exams are now $94. Additionally, if your student wishes to take one or more AP exams as a non-enrolled student (not enrolled in corresponding AP course), then they will need to pay $94 per exam before the test is ordered. Students, teachers and counselors have been apprised of this opt in procedure for non-enrolled students.   The non-enrolled opt in form can be picked up in H135 and is due by October 25 with check payable to Justice High School.

We will be communicating throughout the year to remind you of due dates. If you have questions about the new AP format, processes, or fees please email our Assessment Coach, Shelley Terry, at sdterry@fcps.edu.

Sincerely,

Maria V. Eck
