Deer Park - Lockdown Drill today and Back to School Night Info

Lockdown Drill Today

Throughout the year, we will be having four lockdown drills. Two of these lockdown drills take place during the first twenty days of school. This afternoon, we practiced our first lockdown drill of the school year. Our staff reviews the below procedures and expectations with our students.

  • Lockdowns are used to describe security measures taken to protect against intruders.
  • All students stay in place with a teacher or staff member. Students are instructed to go to the closest room if they are in the hallway. Staff looks briefly in the hallway to see if any students need to come into their room from the hallway.
  • Students and teachers remain in locked classrooms, unobservable from outside (lights-off, window blinds closed, door windows obscured with cover). They stay away from all doors and windows.
  • No one enters or exits the school, except public safety personnel.
  • Students and staff in modular remain in locked modular.
  • Students and staff remain quiet in their location behind a locked door until evacuated by administration during a drill or by law enforcement personnel.

We feel confident that by practicing, our students and staff have the knowledge on how to proceed during an emergency situation.

 

Back to School Night Information (BTSN)

 There are two BTSNs scheduled at Deer Park:

Wednesday, September 11th for grades K, 2, 5, and Preschool Autism Class (PAC)

Wednesday, September 18th for grades 1, 3, 4, and 6

Please click on the link below for the staggered schedule, childcare, and important information.

If you are in need of childcare for BTSN, please RSVP no later than Friday, September 6th to Leeza Wisniewski at llwisniewski@fcps.edu.  Please state which day you need childcare and the name and age of your child/children. We will only be able to accommodate children ages 3 years and older (must be toilet trained). Childcare will be held in the cafeteria.

PTA Reminder

Wednesday, September 4th:  PTA Meeting at 7pm in the Library

Come join the PTA for their first meeting at 7pm in the Library.  Free Child Care is provided and light refreshments.  We will also be raffling off the DVD, "Secret Life of Pets 2"!  See you there!
