 A Note From Your Principals
Dear Bonnie Brae,
It's been a great first week back! We're making connections and learning knew content! We're off to a great start!
As we gear up for another week, we'd like to bring your attention to the traffic laws that FCPD have reminded our families about. We've witnessed several illegal U-turns and some cars blocking the driveways of our neighbors. We are a growing community, so please be mindful of students walking and crossing the street with their families. We strongly encourage you to use the kiss n ride line for arrival and dismissal.
The most common violations observed during arrival and dismissal include the following:
- Taking In or Discharging of Passengers on a Highway: Sideburn Rd.
This violation occurs when parents drop off/pick-up their students by pulling to the curb/shoulder of a travel lane to drop off/pick up their student. Vehicles can only take in or discharge passengers when vehicles are pulled to the curb/shoulder in a legal parking lane.
- Parking within 10’ of a Driveway: 82-5-1(a)(2)
- Parking within 30’ of a Stop Sign: 82-5-1(a)(7)
- Parking in or within 20’ of a Crosswalk: 82-5-1(a)(5)
- Parking within 30’ of a Bus Stop: 82-5-40
- Parking within 15’ of a Fire Hydrant: 82-5-1(a)(4)
- Parking within 20’ of an Intersection: 82-5-1(a)(3)
- Illegal U-turn: 46.2-845- The driver of a vehicle within cities, towns or business districts of counties shall not turn his vehicle so as to proceed in the opposite direction except at an intersection.
Please be aware of these traffic rules and laws when at BBES. Our first priority is to ensure student safety.
Have a great weekend!

Please be mindful that pets are not allowed on school grounds. Currently Bonnie Brae has one student that requires a service dog. It does not accompany the student on a daily basis, but is permitted on school campus. Please be mindful that the dog is working, so you must ask permission to touch/pet. Please email me at alcage@fcps.edu if you have any questions.

Severe Allergies/No Birthday treats
We have a number of students at Bonnie Brae with Life Threatening Allergies. Many of them include, but are not limited to foods with egg, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, dairy, sesame seeds, shell fish, etc. We will send home a letter to the students in each class where a known life threatening allergy exists once we have the parent's permission. We will ask for your help to ensure no sharing of food and or snacks. Birthday Treat Policy 2019-2020: The Robinson Pyramid principals met with our health teams and determined the number of students with life threatening allergies is growing at an alarming rate. With that information, we want to do all that we can to keep all students safe. We have shared this information in our newsletters and asked for your input as well as staff. We have determined that we can no longer allow edible treats for birthday celebrations. Some of the suggestions you've given us for alternatives have been great. For example, purchase a new game for indoor recess, surprise your student and be a guest reader, birthday pencils or new books for the classroom to name a few. Each classroom teacher may add to this list to make it meaningful for their students and or grade level.
