“The Student Rights & Responsibilities (SR&R) booklets have arrived and will be mailed out to you next week. There are some changes to the document from previous years, so please take some time to look through it with your student. If you have not already signed and returned the parent signature sheet enclosed in the Welcome Back packet, please remove page 1 from the booklet, and sign and return it with your student. I have also include an Opt-Out form in the mailing for a guest speaker we having coming on October 3, 2019. Mr. Chad Brockway will be presenting to the student body on “The Risks of Social Media and Emerging Technology.” Mr. Brockway’s presentation aligns with our efforts to teach Digital Citizenship as we implement FCPSOn. If you do not want your student to attend the presentation, please sign and return the Opt-Out form by September 27, 2019. Thank you.”
Here comes the bus
Transportation will be launching a new app, Here Comes The Bus after school starts. It is supported by the Facilities & Transportation FASTeam (Customer Service Team) and Transportation at 571-238-2400. The ITFASTeam will provide additional support by resolving issues related to student data or assisting parents who need to create their Parent View account. An information page is available on the web, which includes instructions for how to find and download the app.
G Suite For Education
Google Drive File Stream will be pushed to all student computers to support our 1:1 students as they transition between home and school. Important information and updates about G Suite can be found on the G Suite Information page. A quick start guide for Google Drive File Stream is available under the Drive tab.

DARS Program
Dear Parent/Guardian:
As part of our commitment to prepare students in special education programs for graduation, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) offers the services of Employment and Transition Representatives (ETR) in each high school. ETR support is provided in collaboration with students, teachers, and families to facilitate the transition from school to work through transition planning and career development. Guidance and instruction may focus on any of the following:
- Transition support
- Exploration and assessment of career opportunities
- Exploration of postsecondary education and training opportunities
- Assistance in locating/obtaining employment
- Coordination with adult service providers, as appropriate
Fairfax County Public Schools offers several special education classes geared to work and career exploration. You may find more information about our Career and Transition Services options at https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/special-education-instruction/career-and-transition-services . FCPS also offers instruction through the Career and Technical Education Academies which provide advanced technical and specialized courses that integrate career and academic preparation. A complete listing of academy locations and courses can be found at https://www.fcps.edu/academics/high-school-academics-9-12/career-and-technical-education-cte For students considering college, the Virginia Department of Education provides resources to prepare and succeed in college. These can be found at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/special_ed/transition_svcs/college_planning/index.shtml For students considering employment, I have enclosed information about the Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS). DARS may provide postsecondary support to persons seeking employment and career guidance.
Enclosed you will find a listing of several 2019/2020 Career and Transition events for students and parents. I encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities. Please check Keep in Touch (KIT) messages for additional reminders and information.
