Fox Mill Focus

Greetings From Your Administrators

Dear Fox Mill Families and Friends,

We were so excited to welcome everyone back to school on Monday.  This week has been one of renewed friendships, teamwork, and learning new routines.

Each grade-level has provided a snapshot of what's been going on in their world:

Kindergarten:

We all read the book “First Day Jitters.”  We then made “jitter juice” to wash away all of our jitters.  (Sprite and Hawaiian punch)  😊

On Tuesday, we read “The Kissing Hand” and talked about how we felt at school.  You can see the lovely art work displayed on the walls in Fox Glen.

We are busy learning routines and expectations.

Grade 1:

First graders learned the First Grade Cheer!  They explored math tools/games.  They listened to beginning of the year  stories like Chrysanthemum, What if Everybody Did That, and First Day Jitters.  We learned one another’s names in Morning Meeting and started to learn about one another during share.

Grade 2:

We have been learning routines and expectations in the classroom, hallway, cafeteria, and playground.  We are excited to observe our Monarch butterflies.Creating math problems that tell facts about us has been fun!

Grade 3:

Third grade is off to an exciting start here at Fox Mill! We've been getting to know our classmates, both old and new. Students have been learning that it's okay to eat "Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun" and embrace our differences! We've begun our first math unit on place value and students have enjoyed playing some math games to help their learning. We've also been learning how to check out books from our classroom libraries, singing silly songs in JI, and playing some new morning meeting games. We're ready for an awesome year!

Grade 4:

Our fourth grade community gathered this afternoon for a team building challenge.  All 80 students silently arranged themselves in a line based on their birthday month and day. Students practiced being problem solvers by developing strategies to communicate without using their voices.  After we created our line, students broke into small groups introduced themselves  and shared 3 facts about themselves.

Grade 5:

This week fifth grade focused on Community Building through a variety of activities. The JI students are working on Japanese Sign Language to strengthen their Japanese communication skills and to build their community. Students also have been answering a variety of Would You Rather questions, like ‘would you rather receive 1 Million Dollars or receive $1,000 every week for the rest of your life’, and ‘would you rather have pizza for every meal or ice cream for every meal.’ The entire grade had a discussion about our grade wide expectations for behavior, which brought everyone together. It has been a great week of Community Building and getting to know each other!!

Grade 6:

Sixth grade has enjoyed getting back into the swing of school!  We welcomed some new students to the grade level, have gone over expectations as well as procedures.  Students have accepted the responsibility of being role models for the school and are off to a great start!

There will be no school on Friday, August 30 and Monday September 2 due to the Labor Day weekend.

Please enjoy time with family and friends.

All the best,

Mr. Moose     Ms. Greene
