- We do monitor your child’s attendance daily, and will reach out to you if your child does not arrive at school or class as expected.
- Please continue to contact the school via the attendance line or email if your child will be absent. The school attendance contact information can be found on each school’s web page.

The Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) School Board adopted a universal screener assessment for use with all elementary school students in kindergarten through grade 6. The universal screener assessment includes a reading test and a mathematics test. Students in kindergarten will receive screening for reading only. Students in grades 1-6 will receive screening for both mathematics and reading.
The purpose of this assessment is to identify students who may have gaps in foundational literacy and mathematics skills. Based on universal screener results, some students may require an additional assessment to further diagnose the specific learning areas that may need support. The universal screener reading test, together with any necessary follow-up diagnostic assessments, also fulfills state testing expectations for primary students.
The universal screener and any necessary follow-up assessments will be given at the beginning of the school year. Depending on grade level and previous screener performance, students may receive screening again in the winter and/or in the spring. Schools set the specific dates for testing in each class. For the expected dates when your child will test, please contact your child’s teacher.
Additional information, including a short video, about the universal screener in FCPS can be found at this webpage: https://www.fcps.edu/node/33718. If you have further questions about this assessment, please contact your child’s teacher or the school’s test coordinator.
Teachers in grades 1-6 at Lees Corner may begin administering the universal screener (iReady) the week of September 9th and testing may continue through the first week in October. Kindergarten testing will take place in October and early November.
During daily arrival and dismissal, there is a sharp increase in traffic around our school and parking places can be hard to find. Please remember that the residential parking lot across the street from our school should not be used for school parking, drop off, pick up, or as a waiting area for children. Those parking spaces are for residents. A safer alternative is our Kiss and Ride which can be used for both arrival and dismissal.
If you are new to Lees Corner and you have a child(ren) in grades 1-6, please join us for a welcome breakfast on Monday, September 16th from 9:00-10:00 a.m. in the library. We will tell you more about our school and answer your questions. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents, staff members, and PTA members!

Welcome Back from the PTA!
We hope everyone has had a great first few days of school! We are excited for the new year and are looking forward to making it a fun and exciting experience for all students and their families. Once again, we are asking for families to pledge their support to the PTA (with no additional requests for fundraising!!) to allow us to continue to sponsor such things as author visits, cultural arts assemblies, field trips, scholastic readers, teacher grants, teacher development opportunities, and the 6th grade luncheon. As a bonus, with these pledged donations, you receive a discount on after school activities, a free printed directory, free family admission to Hallowingo, and a spirit item at the 6th grade basketball game. There is also the $20 family membership option! To join, please go to Lees Corner PTA – a GREAT place to grow! .If you have any questions about joining the PTA, please contact Stephanie Kohne at stephleo20@yahoo.com.
