Louise Archer Sunshine News #1

kinder

Welcome to our new kindergarteners and families at Louise Archer!

From the Principal's Desk:

It has been a pleasure to have all of our students and staff back this week! I have enjoyed visiting classrooms and listening as the students get to know one another and their teachers.  We have motivated teachers and energetic students ready to learn!  The best part of my day is going into classrooms and watching learning in action. The first week everyone has been building routines and setting goals, hopes, and dreams for the school year.  I look forward to working with students, staff, and parents this year to help make these happen.

Every other week, I will send out a News You Choose with important information, updates, and reminders related to Louise Archer. Please take time to read this information so you can stay connected with your child's school and maintain a wonderful partnership with us. We look forward to a fantastic school year!

Here Comes the Bus App

Fairfax County Public Schools’ Office of Transportation Services is pleased to introduce  Here Comes the Bus®, a parent-focused school bus tracking app for the 2019-20 school year. The app is offered at no charge to parents. The app provides timely school bus arrival information through a graphical interface as well as messaging to indicate the bus’s distance from your child’s bus stop for both a.m. and p.m. bus stops.

The Positivity Project

LAES is proud to begin our third year with The Positivity Project (P2)!  This mission is to help teach and empower our students to build positive relationships and to be contributing community members.

Throughout the course of the year, we will learn about and demonstrate the Positivity Project's 24 character traits.  This year we will start this journey the week of September 8th and will delve into the “Other People Matter” mindset.  The P2 mission is to help children cultivate positive relationships and to understand, appreciate, and exemplify the character strengths in us all—we all have traits to celebrate!

The idea behind this statement is that good relationships with others promotes happy and healthy individuals. The five behaviors of those with healthy relationships:  1. recognize the good in others, 2. everything you say or do affects other people, 3. support people when they struggle, 4. cheer people on when they succeed, 5. be present, give people your attention.

The week of September 15th will focus on the first of 24 character traits, “Curiosity.” Students will learn about and explore the trait of curiosity and why it is an important strength in all of us.

We would love for parents to be involved in our emphasis on promoting the qualities of the Positivity Project. We will continue to keep you informed of what we are focusing on in hopes that you can reflect on it at home with your children.
