7th Grade Back to School Night

Dear Rachel Carson Families:
We are looking forward to welcoming parents and guardians of RCMS seventh grade students at Back To School Night on Thursday, August 29, from 7:00PM to 8:30PM Parents should report to their child’s first period class where they will view a short welcome on the TV from our administration. Parents and guardians will then have an opportunity to follow their student’s schedule, meet teachers and counselors, and learn more about the upcoming school year.
FLE Preview 6:15PM in the Library: There will be a preview/information session starting at 6:15PM for our Family Life Education units. Physical Education teachers will be on hand in the library to discuss the instructional units, how you may opt out of any portions of the program, and answer any questions you may have.
Back to School Night Flyer: Students will be sent home with a flyer for Back to School Night on Thursday, August 29th during their Panther Time class. Remind them to give you this flyer as it will have a copy of their schedule printed for your convenience. If your student forgets to give you the flyer you can always pick up a copy of your student’s schedule in the main foyer that evening. You may also access your child’s schedule via SIS ParentVue and SIS StudentVue. For more information about obtaining a ParentVue account, please click here to access support on the FCPS website. Please note that an “activation key” is required to activate a ParentVue account.
Parking Shuttle: Parking is available at Carson, Nysmith or at Open Door Presbyterian Church, 3001 Centreville Road Herndon, VA. Please do not park in the fields at Carson, as this will damage our underground irrigation systems. RCMS will have an FCPS shuttle bus running on Back to School Night. It will begin runs at 6:30PM from our overflow parking location at Open Door Presbyterian Church. The shuttle will run until 7:15PM and then begin again at 8:30PM until approximately 30 minutes after BTSN has ended to assist parents in getting to their cars.

Carson One Book
This fall, all Carson teachers, staff, and students will read Refugee by Alan Gratz together during our Drop Everything And Read time (Wednesdays during Panther Time).
We ask students to bring a copy of the book to school by September 4, 2019.

Digital Permission Letter
At RCMS we are fortunate to have laptops in every classroom this year. Teachers are looking forward to incorporating engaging and meaningful technology into their instruction and have a variety of tools they would like to use. Some of these tools require users under age 13 to give permission. A Digital Permission Letter was handed out to all 7th graders through their History classes Monday and Tuesday this week. Eighth graders who are under 13 will receive it later this week. There was one tool not listed on the form, Smart Music, that should have been included. Please look over the letter and return it signed with your child ASAP.
