Student Cell Phones At School

Rocky Run MS permits students to have cell phones at school.  FCPS Middle School guidelines recommend that students keep cell phones silenced and away in lockers or backpacks at all times during the school day.  Teachers may ask students to use cell phones for instructional activities in class and may enforce classroom rules related to cell phone use.  Students are encouraged to secure cell phones in their lockers or backpacks during lunch.

We will be reviewing expectations for students throughout the first week of school and will share additional information with families at Back To School Night.

FCPS and Rocky Run MS are not responsible for loss of personal devices including cell phones, tablets, personal computers.

Transportation To and From School

  • Students should access their assigned bus or walking route to get to and from school each day.
  • Walking and/or Biking are strongly encouraged
  • Kiss and Ride is intended for families who MUST provide transportation only.
  • Traffic through the bus loop becomes very heavy after 7:05 AM.
  • DO NOT park in the staff parking lots to drop students off for school.
  • Students who are are late to school as a result of Kiss and Ride traffic will be marked tardy.

Walkers and Bike Riders

Walking paths from surrounding neighborhoods are open!   Students who live on walking streets are encouraged to walk or ride their bikes to Rocky Run.  Bike racks are located in Ramsville and on the side of the building to the left of Door 4 as you face the building.

Buses

All families should have received bus information through email messages, text messages and phone calls directly from the FCPS Transportation office. Students may only ride their assigned bus. Student bus information is available on FCPS 24-7 (Blackboard) in the section titled Bus Stop Information.

Also, Here Comes the Bus® app is a school bus tracking app that can simplify morning and afternoon routines for parents and students by giving them real-time bus location and text or email notification alerts, helping them get to the bus stop on time. Here Comes the Bus® utilizes our GPS data and an easy to use customizable map that works on one or multiple devices, such as a tablet or smartphone.

Kiss and Ride

Please review the map for our new Kiss and Ride.  A separate email for Kiss and Rise will also be sent.  Follow all traffic signs and be aware of the crossing guard posted at Stringfellow Road and Poplar Tree Road. For the safety of all students and drivers, students may only to be dropped off in the designated Kiss and Ride area.  Staff will be posted to support Kiss and Ride throughout the first few weeks of s school.

Lockers, Backpacks, Lunches, and School Supplies

Lockers and Backpacks:  Rocky Run MS Students are permitted to carry backpacks to and from classes.  Students will store backpacks in their lockers during PE and Lunch.  Students should plan visits to their lockers for times such as before and after school and lunchtime to minimize transitions.

School Supplies:  For the first day of school, students DO NOT need all of their school supplies. Students should come prepared with a notebook and a writing utensil for the first day of school. A list of suggested school supplies can be found on our website:  here

Additional school supplies will be requested through students’ teams during the first few days of school.  Student laptops will be issued the first day of school through Science classes.

Lunches: Students should plan to purchase lunch in the cafeteria or bring their own lunch from home daily.  Money can be added to a student lunch account through MySchool Bucks.  All students should have a lunch account so that they may purchase a lunch or snacks as needed or if they forget a lunch.

Dropping off lunch for students is discouraged.  Please do not bring in food for students from local restaurants.  RRMS staff are not responsible for food items dropped off at school for student lunches and cannot guarantee a student will be notified that a lunch is waiting.  Thank you for your understanding.
