Kilmer MS Week 1 - #2

k

An opportunity to meet and chat with friends. The cafeteria is a great place to be.

From the Principal's Desk:

Greetings Cougar Community:

We had a wonderful first week!!  Our seventh graders took a little while to master the intricacies of using a locker and walking a much larger school, but by today, they seemed to have mastered it.  Our eighth graders don’t seem to have forgotten much over the summer, and are helping the younger students in the halls.  Teachers have focused on community building and have already begun instruction.  I have enjoyed watching your students get back in the swing with some very engaging lessons developed by our teachers.  I look forward to a great year!

Announcements

Free and Reduced Lunch Application

The Free and Reduced Meals application is now online.  Families must re-apply every year to receive this service.  More information and a link to the application can be found at:  https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/food-and-nutrition-programs/free-and-reduced-price-meals.  Please also complete the consent to share information (section 4 of the application) as this can allow the school to waive course fees and receive reduced fees for other activities.  If families do not re-apply their number will be inactivated in early October.

Everything Transportation

Arrival / Dismissal Procedures

For the safety of all, follow the posted signs.

Students who live along FCPS transportation routes are strongly encouraged to ride the buses.

Parents – do not drop your students off in the fire station lot or make a U-turn on Wolftrap Road. This is an active fire station and using this area can slow first responders in an emergency additionally we have seen many almost accidents. Using the Kiss & Ride lanes will ensure the safety of our students.

Morning Arrival:

  • Kiss & Ride drop off is located outside doors 14, 15, and 16 at the side of the building each AM.  (Kiss & Ride students will enter the building using the doors at entrance 14, 15 and 16). Pull up to the top of the sidewalk if possible.
  • In the AM, school bus riders will unload along the front of the school building and enter the building through door 1 (main entrance), only.
  • All students must use the sidewalks and crosswalks at all times. Bike riders MUST walk their bikes once they arrive on campus.
  • ONLY school buses will be allowed use of the bus loop in the front of the school from 7:00 to 7:30 am.

Afternoon Dismissal:

  • Buses will load for departure outside Doors 14 (F-hall), 15 (G-hall), 16 (H-hall) and along the fence near the trailers.
  • Students should immediately exit the building after school and check the white board located outside of Door15 (G-hall) to see if their bus has arrived and its location.
  • If students check the board and their bus is not listed, they should go to the end of the bus line where they will wait for their bus to arrive. To ensure everyone’s safety, DO NOT wait and form crowds along the sidewalk.
  • Students are not allowed to cut through the parking lot to get to their bus. This is dangerous and students can get hurt.
  • Kiss & Ride for students being picked up will be located outside of Door 1 (front of the building). Cars are able to wait in a double lined formation.

Walkers and bike riders will leave via Door 1 (front of the building). Please use sidewalks and crosswalks at all times.

Now that school has started and school busses are all over the roads, please take a moment to review the below diagram of the rules for driving with busses.
