Congratulations Ms. Johnson!

picture of Paula Johnson

We are pleased to announce our new Assistant Principal, Ms. Paula Johnson!  Ms. Johnson’s journey with FCPS began when she was a student at Lanier Middle school and then graduating from Fairfax High School.  She attended Virginia Commonwealth University where she received her undergraduate degree in English and a master’s degree in Elementary Education.  Later, Ms. Johnson received her Administration and Supervision endorsement PK-12 through FCPS’ Accelerated Certification Cohort in conjunction with UVA’s Curry School of Education.

Ms. Johnson has been a member of the Hornet Nation family for 6 years.  She began her work with our community as a first grade teacher; and then transitioned into the role of Instructional Coach for the past four years.  Prior to coming to Halley, Ms. Johnson taught in FCPS as a general education classroom teacher for eight years!

Ms. Johnson strongly believes it is the goal of all educators to help students see the great potential that lies within each of them in order to serve the greater good of our society.  She is ecstatic about the opportunity to continue serving the staff, students and families of Halley!   Please congratulate her when you see her.  We are excited and pleased to have her join the administrative team.

We had a very successful Open House!

We loved seeing all our Halley

students and families!

New for 2019: FCPS Now Using the

Here Comes the Bus Mobile App

To help you know when your child’s bus is approaching your stop, FCPS is now using the Here Comes the Bus mobile app, starting on August 26. Here Comes the Bus is a free school bus tracking app that can simplify morning and afternoon routines for parents and students by giving real-time bus location and text or email notification alerts, helping everybody get to the bus stop on time.

Here Comes the Bus® uses FCPS global positioning system (GPS) data and an easy-to-use customizable map that works on one or multiple devices, such as a tablet, smartphone, or desktop computer.

Parents can download the app now for free from the App Store or Google Play. You will need the FCPS school district code 28982 and a Student Information System (SIS) Parent Account (contact your child's school if you do not have an SIS Parent Account). Once signed in, you can customize or edit features, including how the app will communicate with you, and the size and location of the notification radius around your child's bus stop.

Learn more about the Here Comes the Bus mobile app.

School Closed:  Labor Day Break

August 30-September 2

New Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. As a result, Friday, August 30, is a holiday for students, in addition to the Labor Day holiday.
