Franklin Middle School Transportation Procedures

FCPS Bus Riders

All bus riders are to get on and off their assigned FCPS bus at their assigned FCPS stop with the following exception:

A student is issued a walking pass from the school which indicates parent/guardian & administrative approval.

Any long-term requests for stop changes, bus route changes, or special requests will be forwarded to Area 3 Transportation.

Any questions or concerns can be directed to Rob Gibbs at 703-904-5100.

Student Drop-off (Kiss ‘n’ Ride) - entrance closest to the athletic fields

  • The bus loop and our parking lots are NOT drop-off points for students
  • Parents/guardians must use the Kiss ‘n’ Ride line to drop off students
  • As a courtesy to other parents who are also dropping their children off to school, drivers are kindly asked to move as far ahead as possible to the Kiss ‘n’ Ride crosswalk prior to dropping off their child.
  •  Parents and guardians are welcome to park and walk with their child from the parking lots to the school to assist a child in need or for an office visit. Please use the crosswalks.

Walkers and Bicyclists

All walkers either live within the 1 mile radius and/or have a walking pass (purple pass) indicating written parent/guardian permission on file.

Students are expected to:

  • Only cross Lees Corner Road at the intersection of Thorngate and Lees Corner; students should not cross Lees Corner at any other point.
  • Use the proper crosswalk, and walk the bike or carry the skateboard across the crosswalk
  • Continue to walk the bike or carry the skateboard while on school property
  • Use the bike racks
  • Wear their helmets

Breakfast is Served!

Food services offers a limited breakfast menu each morning to start your student’s day out right. The FMS cafeteria will be open at 7:10 every day to serve all students interested in a meal. Students will proceed straight to the cafeteria upon arrival, will have approximately 10-15 minutes to eat their meal and will then continue to their first class at the 7:25 warning bell.

Please send your student to school with their lunch account number to expedite the serving line. For your convenience, you can find all meal menus at the following link:

Parent Teen Book Club

QR Code for Parent-Teen Book Club

Welcome Franklin Falcons to the 2019-2020 school year!  I am excited to announce the dates for the Parent Teen Book Club.  This program is a great opportunity to communicate with your teenager as he/she moves forward in shaping an identify and in making good choices for the future.  Both the parent and teen read the book before the meeting and come ready to discuss the text.  There are three separate meetings throughout the course of the school year and five different titles are offered at each meeting.  There are also author visits and guest speakers as they relate to a theme associated with a text.

This school year, there will be three meetings.   The first meeting will occur on October 3, 2019 and will meet at 7:00 p.m. until 8:15 p.m.  Registration will open at 3 p.m. on August 29, 2019 and the QR Code for that meeting is above.  The second meeting will occur on January 15, 2020 and the registration will open on November 20, 2019.  The third meeting will occur on April 1, 2020 and sign ups will open on February 27, 2020.   Questions?  Contact Karen Radcliffe at keradcliffe@fcps.edu

Author Visit - Ben Mikaelsen

Welcome Franklin Falcons!  Franklin Middle School is excited to welcome writer Ben Mikaelsen, author of Touching Spirit Bear, next spring on April 1, 2020.  In preparation for this author visit, part of each student’s school supplies are to purchase a copy of Touching Spirit Bear.  When Ben is here in the spring, he will sign personal copies of the students’ books.  If you do not purchase a copy, Franklin Middle School will have copies available for students to borrow during the school year.  Franklin Middle School prides itself on building literacy for all students and we incorporate ten minutes of reading in fifth period two times per week.  Beginning the week of September 23, 2019, students will be reading Touching Spirit Bear.   Prior to beginning work on Touching Spirit Bear, students should have another book to read during fifth period.  Thanks for supporting literacy at Franklin Middle School.

Best Buddies Interest Meeting

There will be an interest meeting for Best Buddies Monday September 23rd in the first block after school from 2:40 - 3:40.
