PTO NEWS

August 22, 2019

The following message is sent on behalf of Cooper Middle School PTO.

The content reflects the views of the PTO

WELCOME BACK EVERYONE!

Here we are again, asking ourselves the time-honored question: “How did the summer go by so fast?” Hope everyone had restful and relaxing family time and read some great books.

Welcome Back Teacher/Staff Luncheon

The Cooper PTO officially kicked off the new school year Tuesday, with our annual Welcome Back luncheon for teachers and staff. MANY THANKS goes to our gracious host, new Cooper parent Sara Keshavarz. We had delicious Persian food from Moby’s and got a chance extend a big welcome back and thank you from the parent community to the teachers and staff who will be guiding our children this year.

Thanks also to the parent volunteers who helped: Brenda Beeland, Chelsea Lake, Laura Marschoun, Alicia McKenzie, Amy Prewett, and Ally Weingast.

AND finally, thanks to the student volunteers who helped greet everyone and spread goodwill: Nicholas and Isabella Capps, Angad Dhillon, and Jacob Sedaca.

Join the PTO

The PTO is looking forward to another great year of working with parents and the school to support educational and extra-curricular programming as well as teacher and parent resources.

To provide the most robust support, however, we need YOU. Please consider joining the PTO if you haven’t already: $25/family, plus a suggested $125 donation per student – these funds go a long way. You can stop by our membership table during Locker Night tonight: August 22, or you can download the form here: https://cooperpto.org/?page_id=5855

Stay in Touch

Even though our middle school students don’t need (or want!) us around as much as before, there are still ways you can plug in to the community here:

  1. Like us on Facebook for regular updates on parent and school events and news.
  2. Check out our web page for more resources, our calendar, updates, and newsletter archives: www.cooperpto.org
  3. Read our weekly newsletter, which is distributed on Wednesdays. It has the same FCPS banner as other school mailings, but its headline says PTO NEWS.
  4. Come to our monthly general membership meetings – usually held the first Tuesday of every month. If you can’t attend meetings but would like to follow along, we broadcast MOST of them live on Facebook.
  5. Volunteer for one of our committees: see the PTO membership form for ideas about ways to volunteer for either short term or long term commitments. https://cooperpto.org/?page_id=5855

Important Dates

As always, the first few weeks of school are busy with orientation events, so mark your calendars for the following dates:

Thursday, August 22 – Locker Night from 4-6pm in the cafeteria

While students are getting their lockers situated, parents can take advantage of this opportunity to join the PTO: we’ll be there with the forms. Dues: only $25 per family, plus a suggested $125 dollar donation for each child. We use these funds toward school resources, program and teacher enrichment, and parent education programming.

Spiritwear will also be available: Please bring cash or check. Our t-shirts (both men’s and women’s styles) are $20, the baseball jerseys are $25, and the 1/4-zip pullovers are $35.

Tuesday, August 27- PTO General Membership Meeting and Q and A with Principal Randall @ 9:30am in Room 130.

This is an invaluable opportunity to learn about the upcoming renovations at Cooper and new cell phone policy, plus ask any other questions you may have about navigating your child’s school year.

After the Meeting: Our PTO Parent’s Panel will stick around after Principal Randall’s Q and A. The Parent’s Panel can answer lingering questions.

Spiritwear

Spiritwear

We have a new line of Spiritwear this year, and we think you’ll love it. We’re working on making it possible to make credit card purchases, but in the meantime, cash and check are still best. Consider bringing some cash with you for Locker Night or for Back to School Nights in September so you can take advantage of our fun new inventory.
