Dear Parents and Guardians:
We are fortunate to have a number of means of sharing information with you about activities in our school as well as student and staff successes. I would like to review these forms of communication and share with you how we use them.
E-Notify is used primarily for FCPS emergencies, attendance, and essential outreach messages to specific groups. We limit the types of information sent via E-Notify to ensure you know when one is sent it is usually of an urgent nature. Keep In Touch (KIT) is no longer used.
News You Choose (NYC) is used for distribution of non-critical e-mail communications such as newsletters, event information, non-critical updates, instructional program information, and service program information. NYC replaced KIT for non-critical communications. The following groups and individuals in our school have NYC accounts: Principal, Director of Student Services, Band, Chorus, Orchestra, PTSA, and Wrestling. Westfield HS webpage is a source for various forms of information about our school. It provides a link to FCPS 24-7 Learning, SIS, G Suite, Library, Lunch Menus, and MySchoolBucks; additionally, information about our administrative team, staff directory, attendance, bell schedule, grading expectations, honor code, school profile, safety and security, academics, events, get involved, student life & activities, and student services is available by selecting “MENU” at the upper left corner of the webpage.
Twitter has become the means for a number of individuals, clubs and teams, and organizations to share information with their followers. The Westfield APP is our newest means of communicating with our students, staff, and parents. In addition to functioning as an organizer, the APP allows the user to communicate with groups and individuals. Those who use the APP also have access to twitter posts, the Westfield webpage, staff email directory, and more.
SIS ParentVue is a means for parents with active accounts to monitor their student’s academic progress, attendance, and discipline record. Currently 87% of our parents have signed up for accounts. This is a priceless tool to see the most up to date information on their student’s progress.
Westfield Live (https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=westfield+live) is our student news program that is uploaded daily to YouTube. This is not your average student news program. We highlight individuals and groups in our school, share information, and report on all things Westfield. The programs are archived on YouTube, so you can see earlier versions.
FCPS Email every staff member has an FCPS email account. You can access staff member email addresses at (https://westfieldhs.fcps.edu/staff-directory) or (https://westfieldhs.fcps.edu/academics/departments). This is the fastest means to contact any teacher, and you should receive a response within two workdays of sending your email.
Phone each teacher has a phone with voice mail you are also welcome to call. Staff phone numbers are available on the Westfield webpage (https://westfieldhs.fcps.edu/staff-directory) or (https://westfieldhs.fcps.edu/academics/departments). Please note, teacher phones do not ring in the classroom during school hours, so calls will be directed to the teacher’s voicemail.
