Message from Mrs. Castillo

LRES

We are so excited to open our doors on August 22 to welcome students and their families for our kick off to the school year!  The staff, administrators, custodians, teachers, and office staff have been hard at work ensuring that everything is in place.  There are a few exciting upgrades completed like a sensory path, water bottle refill station, painted blacktop, little free library, and new rugs.  The playground will be completed this fall, we are in queue with FCPS for this exciting building improvement.  Stay tuned - as we hear of dates and timelines, we will keep you informed.

The first day of school is one of our favorite days of the year!  It is important to us that the day is smooth, calm, memorable, and fun for all our children, families, and staff.  Like last year, we welcome any parent who wishes to park and walk their child to their classroom on the first day.  Kindergarten parents may walk their child again on the second day of school.  By the third day of school, we encourage all children to walk independently to their classrooms.  Also on the first day of school, our PTA hosts a parent coffee in the cafeteria for parents of all Lemon Road students who want to stop by, say hi, and celebrate a successful first drop off!

While we cannot wait to open our doors to everyone, parking at Lemon Road may be challenging during large events.  Next Thursday, consider walking or carpooling.  If you choose to drive, you may park in either the front or rear parking lot or along Idylwood Road in front of the school.  When parking on nearby streets, please be courteous to our neighbors; do not block their driveways, walk across the lawns, leave trash, etc.  Do not park in fire or emergency lane access.

Enjoy the last two weekends of summer.  We can't wait to see you soon ~ Mrs. Castillo

Preschool & Kindergarten Open House

First Day K

We welcome our preschool and kindergarten families from 9:00 - 10:00 AM on August 22 for Open House.  Upon arrival, visit the cafeteria where class lists will be posted and parents can meet representatives from our PTA.  Families are then encouraged to:

  • spend time in the kindergarten classroom where you will meet the teacher and instructional assistant;
  • visit the cafeteria to place money on their child’s lunch account;
  • walk the building and see the gymnasium, art room, library, music rooms, and sensory path;
  • stop by the Health Room (clinic) to drop off medication or ask any questions.

All Lemon Road families are invited back at 5:30 PM for the 7th Annual Welcome Back Picnic.

Grades 1 - 6 Open House & Back to School Night

Back to School Night

Beginning at 3:15 PM, our students in grades 1 – 6 and their families enjoy a casual beginning to the school year by stopping by the cafeteria for the class assignments, visiting their assigned class & teacher, drop off school supplies if purchased independently, then touring the school to meet and greet with the specialists they love.  Other than those directing traffic, all staff will be in their rooms during Open House to greet families who stop by.  During Open House all safety patrols should stop by the gym to receive their patrol belt from our patrol sponsor, Mr. Tom Hickman.  Mr. Hickman can be contacted at tjhickman@fcps.edu with any specific patrol related questions. Also available during Open House will be Ms. Monts in the school health room and Ms. Lyonns in the kitchen to assist with medical questions and lunch accounts as needed.

Then, at 4:00, students in grades 1 - 6 should be dropped off in grade level groups in assigned locations around the school and supervised by Lemon Road staff (listed below) for Back to School Night presentations.  During Back to School Night, parents will hear about the grade level curriculum, important grade-specific events, ways to support in and out of the classroom, and the home learning policy.  Two sessions will be offered.  Session 1 will run from 4:10 – 4:55 and an abbreviated second session will run 5:00 – 5:25.  Parents with only one child at Lemon Road will be invited to meet and greet with the administrators and specialists in the art room during the second session. Parents are be invited to pick up their children at 5:25 and transition as a family to the picnic.

Welcome Back Picnic

BBQ

From 5:30 - 6:15 PM, ALL Lemon Road Elementary staff, students, and families are invited to the school playground for a cookout (hot dogs, veggie dogs, chips, and drinks).  In case of rain, the picnic is unfortunately cancelled.  This is a fun family event we look forward to each year and hope you can make it!

Dining Room Attendant Needed

Salad bar

Lemon Road is looking for a friendly and energetic person to supervise students in the cafeteria during lunch.  Our dining room assistants help students with lunch, monitor students as they eat, and support students as they clean up and leave the cafeteria at the end of lunch. Collaboration with other staff to meet student needs and maintain a welcoming environment is an important part of the position.  The hours are approximately 10:30 -1:30, Monday – Friday.

If you are interested in being part of the Lemon Road team, please contact Morgan Birge, mbirge@fcps.edu, to apply for or learn more about the position.
