Welcome Back

Welcome Back

Be on the lookout for students on their way to and from school.

Consider your transportation choices this fall

Infographic SRTS transportation choices

As students return to school please drive with caution in and around our neighborhood schools.  We can reduce congestion around our schools by choosing the bus, walking, or rolling to school.  Fewer cars dropping off students increases safety and improves air quality.  Students who use active transportation to school benefit from an increase in physical activity time and are better prepared for learning.

Over 70% of FCPS students are provided bus service to and from school but only about 53% utilize school bus transportation according to the Student Travel Tally completed last year.  Twenty-six percent of FCPS students come to school in the family vehicle and only 19% walk or bike to school according to last year's student travel tally.  Could your family commit to getting to school greener at least once or twice a week?

If you need help setting up a PTA committee dedicated to student wellness and active transportation, contact the FCPS Safe Routes to School coordinator at saferoutestoschool@fcps.edu

International Walk to School Day is October 2, 2019.  Register at http://www.walkbiketoschool.org/registration/

Student Travel Tally week is in late September.  Contact the Safe Routes to School coordinator if your school would like to participate.
