Irving MS Weekly Update

Dear Parents/Guardians-

This year Irving Middle School is adopting Away for the Day policy in regards to electronic devices other than computers. When students arrive at school they are asked to turn their phone off and store it either in their locker or backpack for the day to include after school activities. If a student needs to contact their parent/guardian, we have student phones in the main office and in every classroom.

Schools that have made the change from allowing device use to “Away For The Day,” have reported an increase in academic achievement and a decrease in emotional distractions that can arise from social media.

We will be providing more information over the coming weeks about this change in policy and working with everyone to ensure a smooth transition. We look forward to partnering with you to help all of our students grow over these very important two years into successful students socially, behaviorally, and academically!

Sincerely,

Cindy Conley

Communication

eNotify: These emails, text messages, and/or phone calls will provide you with important time-sensitive information that families must know. An example of an eNotify communication is a change in teacher when a staff member takes leave.

News You Choose: Each week, families will receive a News You Choose newsletter from us - this newsletter will include important upcoming dates, school information, after school activities, and PTA news. This is the main form of communication to our families, we hope you will find it helpful and informative!

ParentVue/StudentVue: Throughout the school year, these two tools are the best way for families to monitor student progress. Available through these “Vue’s” are student’s grades, attendance, class syllabi, class calendars, and discipline information. We are offering two sessions (7:45 AM and 7:00 PM) on Tuesday, September 10, to help parents/guardians become familiar with this tool as well as Google Classroom.

Email: Families will receive emails from staff throughout the school year and you are welcome to email administration, counselors, teachers, and staff throughout the school year as questions and needs arise. Please note we do our very best to respond within 24 hours of receiving an email.

Twitter: Both Irving Middle School and Mrs. Conley have Twitter accounts. We post pictures of what is happening in the school as well as quick updates and reminders. We highly recommend you join Twitter and follow both! @IrvingMiddle and @WIMSPrincipal
