Huntsman Crosswalk

Our community aims to provide the safest routes for our students to walk to OHES. Over the years, the crosswalk on Huntsman Blvd. at Spelman Dr. has been an area of concern. Solutions such as employing a crossing guard, installing a stop sign or using overhead flashing lights to indicate when there are students crossing have all been struck down based on limitations by VDOT regulations and the location's proximity to the four-way stop at Sydenstricker Road. FCPS is working with FCDOT to submit an application the Safe Routes to School program for grant funding to make improvements to this crosswalk area. Proposed improvements include a median refuge, curb extensions, and new curb ramps, which will aim to keep traffic in this area at the 25mph speed limit. To strengthen our application, the PTA is collecting data regarding pedestrian use at this crosswalk. Please take a moment to share your information and concerns with this short survey.

Summer Activity : Add to our Positivity Patch

Last year one of our Girl Scout Troop 2406 installed the Positivity Patch to our entrance at door 8. A HUGH Thank You to Girl Scout Troop 32 for adding to this Patch this year.

If you are looking for a rainy day activity, consider making a rock to add to our patch.  Think back to the positivity project we learned about this year, and see what inspiration you can create.
