Greetings, Parents/Guardians and Students!

We are excited to welcome back our new and returning families for the 2019-20 school year! It seems like only yesterday we began our summer break, yet we find ourselves making final preparations to welcome our wonderful students back to school in the coming weeks. Our first day of school is Monday, August 26th, 2019

It is our honor to serve this incredible learning and teaching community. We sincerely look forward to collaborating with our dedicated parents/guardians and involved community members as we continue outstanding work at #OurCES. By working together, #OurCES will continue to be an excellent school where our students, families, and staff are Collaborating, Building Positive Relationships, and Engaged in Learning #thepowerofWE. We look forward to a POSITIVE school year!

Sincerely,

Welcome Walk

We will conduct our annual Welcome Walk on Tuesday, August 20th from 4:30 – 7:00 PM. Your child’s new teacher will drop by for a brief “door visit” to meet your child, welcome your family, and drop off a welcome packet. If you are not home during the Welcome Walk, teachers will leave a door hanger that contains the teacher assignment and class information.  They will follow up with a phone call sometime the next day. Families that are not home during the welcome walk can pick up the welcome packet and meet the teacher on Thursday, August 22nd at Centreville ES between 4:30 – 8:00 p.m. during the Back-to-School/Supply Drop-off Event (details are below).

  • If you prefer to opt out of the Welcome Walk please call the school at 703-502-3500 to let us know and we will not visit your home.

  • If you have changed your address, please notify the CES office as soon as possible at 703-502-3500.

Back-to-School Night/Supply Drop-Off/Medicine Drop-off

Back-to-School Night and the Supply Drop-Off will be combined this year in an open house style event on Thursday, August 22nd from 4:30 – 8:00 p.m. Students and parents/guardians are invited to find their “new” classroom, drop-off their school supplies, learn about the upcoming school year, and talk with specialists in the café. Our school heath aide will be present to accept student medications.

6th:   4:30 – 5:00

1st:   5:00 – 5:30

2nd: 5:30 – 6:00

K:      6:00 – 6:30

3rd:   6:30 – 7:00

4th:   7:00 – 7:30

5th:   7:30 – 8:00

Arrival

Our doors will open to students beginning at 8:55 each morning when the first bell rings. All students will enter through doors 1, 3, or 5 and will go directly to their classrooms at 9:00.  Children not in their classrooms by 9:15 will be marked tardy.   Students entering the building after the late bell at 9:15 must sign in at the main office accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Parents/guardians may accompany their child to their classroom on Monday, August 26th and should leave the building when the bell rings at 9:15 so that class may begin. Beginning on Wednesday, August 28th, we ask that children begin the process of becoming independent as they enter the building. Our staff will help students find their classrooms safely.

Dismissal

Below is a form we would like you to complete and return with your child on the first day letting us know how your child is to go home each day.

The safety of our students is of primary concern during our dismissal procedures.  The first two weeks of dismissal tend to take much longer as students, teachers, parents, and drivers get used to the routines of the dismissal procedures. We ask that you be patient as the children become familiar with the dismissal procedures. All students will begin dismissal at 4:00 PM.  If you plan to meet your walking child at the end of the day, we ask that you wait outside of door 5, the bus lobby entrance.

Special reminder: If you must pick up your child early at the end of the day for an appointment, please arrive to the office by 3:30 PM.  We will not call children for early dismissal after 3:30 PM due to the impact on dismissal procedures in the classrooms.

Bus

Information A bus schedule will be in your welcome walk envelope and is available on Blackboard.

Students are reminded to be at the bus stop five minutes before the listed time. We encourage all bus riders to ride the bus to and from school every day during the first week of school to help them learn these procedures and the routines expected on the bus.

Kiss & Ride

Information All families using Kiss & Ride must register during Back-to-School Night in the café on August 23rd to receive placards for your vehicles. If you are not able to attend this event, please contact the office.

School Meals

Fairfax County Public Schools provides a variety of nutritious meals.  For elementary school students, breakfast is priced at $1.75 and lunch is $3.25. Additional information about prices, purchasing meals, and the criteria and process to apply for free and reduced-price meals can be found on the FCPS Food & Nutrition Program website. Please visit http://bit.ly/2wtbvos for additional information.  Applications need to be submitted each school year.

Emergency Care Card – An Important Document

At the beginning of each school year, critical emergency care and contact information is collected from each family.  A preprinted form will be provided in your Welcome Walk Packet. Please review the information, make any necessary changes, and return the emergency care card with your child’s teacher at the supply drop off.

Sincerely,
