Only fifteen days until the exciting start of the 2019 – 2020 school year and Lemon Road is ready! Mr. Birge and I cannot wait to welcome every family back to school very soon. Thank you to everyone who joined us for playdates on the playground, meet ups at the Tysons-Pimmit library, or at a book mobile stop. We have one more Kindergarten playdate, then hope to see everyone on August 22 for our Open Houses, Back to School Night, and our annual Welcome Back Picnic! More information will be shared next week, but the basic schedule for the day is below.
9:00 – 10:00 AM: Preschool and Kindergarten Open House
3:15 – 4:00 PM: Grades 1 – 6 Open House
4:10 – 5:30 PM: Grades 1 – 6 Back to School Night
5:30 – 6:15 PM: Welcome Back Picnic for ALL Lemon Road Families & Staff
Check out the photos above and at the end of the newsletter to see how successful our Kindergarten KickStart program was! We welcomed 35 rising kindergarteners for one or two weeks to be introduced to everything Lemon Road. Thank you Ms. Velazquez, Ms. Ifkovitz, Ms. Dyer, and Ms. Vargas for planning and teaching this program! Lastly, we are excited to share two exciting additions to our facility! We added a Sensory Path to our back hallway and a water bottle refill station to our cafeteria. Thank you Ms. Myers for coming in over the summer to help make our dream of a sensory path a reality!
As you talk with your neighbors and friends, ask if they received this newsletter – if not, forward this to them and encourage them to use the link at the bottom to subscribe! It is my goal to share a newsletter through News You Choose each week of school.
Read on to meet our new Lemon Road staff and mark your calendar for all our upcoming dates! Lastly, be sure to visit our website for school supply lists and summer reading information. Have a great end of summer ~ Mrs. Castillo

Hello, I’m Nicole Ender! I grew up in Bucks County with a fluffy and energetic dog, named Gunner. When I was in school, my favorite subjects were math and science, which are now my favorite to teach. I keep busy with running and crafting in my free time. I really look forward to meeting my 3rd graders and can’t wait to see what my students can do!

Hello! I am Vanessa King. I was born and raised in Minnesota. I moved to Maryland in January 2011 and to Virginia in June 2017. I have enjoyed a number of teaching experiences through the country and abroad. During college, I played softball and was invited to play in an international softball tournament in Italy. It was quite the experience. I enjoy playing and watching sports.

Hello my name is Heidi Gillmore and I will be the new part-time school counselor. I was born and raised in Iowa but lived in Minnesota the last 6 years. I live with my husband of 4 years and two dogs (Olive- gray Weimaraner and Sammy- German pointer/lab mix). We moved to Maryland last year due to my husband earning his PhD through the military. I’m Jennifer Hitchcock, and I am thrilled to be supporting Lemon Road students and staff as an advanced academics resource teacher this year. I’ve been a classroom teacher for over twenty years working with students from grades K-6 in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and #ourfcps. For the past eight years, I have been a fifth grade AAP teacher at Willow Springs Elementary. I am an FCPS alumni having graduated from West Springfield HS, and I am a proud mom to two current Robinson Rams. Hi! I am Samantha Kreshover and have been a special education teacher for 11 years. Seven of those years here in Fairfax County and four in South Carolina’s Charleston County. I currently reside in Vienna and recently expanded my family with a newborn daughter, Adley, and trusty Australian Shepherd Carson. In addition to teaching, I love to travel and am a nationally certified yoga instructor.

Hi, I am Sarah Jayne Bleiweis. I was born and raised in Northern Virginia. A graduate of FCPS myself, I went on to study art at the College of William and Mary, and then moved to the Middle East to work as an art teacher at a school for orphaned children. I painted many environmental ocean murals with my students, and was so inspired by the experience that I returned back to the USA to attain a Masters of Art in Teaching from Tufts University (2010). Since then, I have continued to work as both an art teacher and yoga instructor, from California to Hawaii to Israel, while also pursuing my personal goal of painting 100 Mermaids and Murals with disadvantaged children from around the world. I am excited to join the Lemon Road Lions community this upcoming school year.
