Dear Panther Families,
Welcome to our new Poplar Tree families and welcome back to all of our returning Poplar Tree families. It’s hard to believe that school is just around the corner! We have been preparing for an awesome 2019-2020 school year and are looking forward to the first day of school on Monday, August 26.
Please be on the lookout for the teacher placement emails next Friday, August 16. There are many factors that go into creating classes at each grade level. We used the input we received from parents, teachers and counselors to create the classes for the upcoming school year. Due to the multiple factors that went into the class creations, we are not able to make any changes to the class placements.
We hope to see many of you on August 22 for the Open House.
Have a super weekend!
Ms. Andujar and Ms. Walker
Teacher Assignments will be sent via email on Friday, August 16. Be on the lookout for this exciting email.

Poplar Tree Elementary will continue its work into Year 4 of FCPSOn, a digital transformation of teaching and learning in the Chantilly Pyramid. This initiative has enabled our students to have equitable access to technology and our teachers to creatively incorporate the Portrait of a Graduate skills into everyday work. Students in kindergarten through sixth grade will each receive a personal device to use for the school year.
Students in grades three through six are expected to take their device home nightly to complete necessary schoolwork, charge the device for the next day, and bring it back the following school day. Just like in previous years, they will be given a carrying case to transport the device safely.
Student devices will be distributed by the teachers during the first few weeks of school. Teachers will be helping students to create and reset last year’s password, begin ongoing discussions about digital citizenship and appropriate use, and get their online core tool accounts setup.
We believe it is very important for everyone to be involved in setting expectations for how students will use their devices at home. We want to work with our families to support students in understanding how to navigate through the digital world. This Family Media Agreement will help facilitate a discussion around these topics!
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact our School Based Technology Specialist, Leslie Leisey at lfleisey@fcps.edu. She will also be available to answer questions during the Back To School Nights on August 28 and September 3.
