Important Forms and Information for Longfellow Families

BACK TO SCHOOL 2019-2020

Dear Longfellow Middle School Families,

We are excited to welcome students back for the 2019-20 school year.  In preparation for the new year, please review the following information and complete the required forms.  Most forms can be accessed electronically.  Paper copies of all forms will be available in the main office from August 12 to August 16 from 8:00am to 12:00pm and at each of the Open Houses.

Required Forms
The following forms are available electronically; they must be printed (except the Emergency Care), completed, and submitted at Open House for students to receive their locker assignment. 

1. Emergency Care - This form does not need to be printed.  It must be updated only if there are changes.  This should be done through the FCPS weCare@school system:

Optional Forms
Please review the electronic Opt-Out Booklet, at the link below.  Any parent or guardian who objects to his or her child’s participation in any or all the following activities should print, complete and return the appropriate form(s) at Open House or to the Longfellow main office.

• Release of information about the student for the school yearbook and other school- related publications
• Release of directory information about the student to persons and organizations outside FCPS
• Use of the student’s image, voice, or name in film, video, website, social media, or broadcast events
• Student participation in the school counseling program
• Release of information for commercial purposes

Family Life Education
These forms only need to be completed if you wish to opt your child out of Family Life Education.

Longfellow PTA
We highly encourage you to join the Longfellow PTA by visiting their website: https://www.longfellowpta.org/.  Longfellow offers numerous programs and an abundance of educational resources due to our strong PTA membership. 

Important Dates
7th grade Open House - Tuesday, August 20 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm
8th grade Open House - Wednesday, August 21 from 3:00pm to 5:30pm
• This event is for students and parents/guardians.  Students pick up their class schedules and locker assignments.  The required forms listed above must be turned in to receive a locker assignment.  Enter through door #1 and visit the check-in tables in the front lobby.  Medication may be dropped off in the clinic.  Bus schedules will be in the Lecture Hall. 
• Please note, the beginning is typically the busiest and most crowded time. 

Orientation for 7th graders and 8th graders new to FCPS - Thursday, August 22 from 9:00am to 11:00am
• This opportunity is provided so students can meet their teachers and practice their schedules.  This event is for students only.  Detailed information regarding Orientation transportation has been mailed directly to rising 7th graders and new 8th graders.  Please contact Marissa Brooks, Director of Services, at MLBrooks@fcps.edu if you have any questions about this event.

Make-up day - Friday, August 23 from 8:00am to 12:00pm in the Main Office
• If you are unable to attend the Open House, you may submit completed forms and receive your student’s class schedule and locker assignment at this time. 

First day of school - Monday, August 26 at 7:30am
• Students who are unable to attend the events above should report to the library on the first day of school.   Please send all required forms to school with your student.  Counselors will be available to assist students, collect forms, and distribute class schedules and locker assignments.

Back to School Night - Wednesday, September 11 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm
• Parents/guardians walk through their student’s class schedule, meet the teachers, and learn about the classes.

StudentVUE and ParentVUE
The ‘Course Request’ tab is no longer available, as we are in the process of creating our school schedule.  Class schedules will be available, on August 22, by clicking the ‘Class Schedule’ tab in StudentVUE and ParentVUE.  If you need to activate your ParentVUE account, directions are available on the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) website:  https://www.fcps.edu/resources/technology/student-information-system-sis-fcps/sis-parent-account-registration

School Supplies

Bell Schedule
The Longfellow school day begins at 7:30am and ends at 2:15pm.  A more detailed view of our bell schedule can be viewed here:
