IC Retreat

A Message from Dr. Smith

We are thrilled to officially welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year!  In just a few short weeks, our school will be bustling with teenagers, teachers and staff excited about the opportunities and possibilities for learning and engagement.

I am pleased to share that our Back-to-School webpage is live and is your one-stop shop for all of the information that you will need for an outstanding school year!  The information is comprehensive, so please take the time to review this information with your child. You may access the webpage at https://lakebraddockss.fcps.edu/back_to_school_news

On Thursday, August 22 we will be hosting Bruin Blast!  This will be an opportunity for you to submit required forms, drop off medications, pick up a copy of your schedule (also available online), tour the school, join our PTSA and Booster clubs, buy spirit wear and much more.   Bruin Blast for middle school is from 8:00-11:00 a.m. and Bruin Blast for high school is from 1:00-3:00 p.m.  New student orientation will also take place on August 22nd, 8:00-11:00 a.m. for middle school (all 7th graders and new 8th graders) and 12:00-1:00 p.m. (all new 9-12 grade students).

Our first class each day begins at 8:00 a.m. and the building will be accessible for students each morning at 7:15 a.m.

Yesterday, we handed out devices to Subschool 3 as a part of our FCPSOn initiative.  This year, all high school students will receive a laptop.  Please be sure to review the dates and times for distribution to each Subschool below.  Almost all middle school classrooms will be equipped with a cart of laptops that can be used to provide instruction.  These middle school devices may not be taken home this year.

Finally, we will be hosting several community events to build relationships and excitement for the upcoming school year.  I hope you will consider attending one or more of these great events.

  • On Wednesday, August 14, from 4:00-6:00 p.m., we will have a Lake Braddock Secondary School (LBSS) Administrative Team Meet and Greet at Coal Fire (9276 Old Keene Mill Rd. Burke, VA).  This event is sponsored by our PTSA and 20% of all sales will go directly to our PTSA. Please see the below flyer for more details.
  • On Thursday, August 22, from 5:00-6:30 p.m., we will be hosting a Military Family potluck for all of our military connected students and families.  This event will be held in the LBSS cafeteria.
  • On Thursday, August 29, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., we will have another LBSS Administrative Team Meet and Greet, prior to the Varsity Football game vs. West Potomac.

Thank you for your continuous support of Lake Braddock. We are looking forward to an incredible year!

Information for ALL

Lake Braddock SS Orchestra Invited to Perform with Medical Musical Group Symphony
The Lake Braddock Secondary Orchestra has been formally invited by Secretary Craig Duehring of the Department of the Air Force to perform a concert with the Medical Musical Group Symphony Orchestra at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center on the Alexandria Campus of Northern Virginia Community College. The internationally renowned, award-winning Medical Musical Group (MMG) is considered the world’s premier integrated medical chorale and symphony orchestra. Core members are doctors, nurses and community volunteers from veterans and other U.S. medical centers and schools all over the U.S. and use a distinctive format of music and readings. MMG’s mission is to perform music with a message of healing, hope, inspiration, and patriotism at home; and peace and international brotherhood and sisterhood overseas. Additionally, the MMG is a recipient of the prestigious Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s Bob Hope Award. Clayton Allen, director of the Lake Braddock Orchestra, is conducting this event alongside the MMG founder Victor Wahby.  Allen’s medical military career coupled with his love of music both as a music educator and active performer attracted the MMG. He was featured in The Washington Post in a story about his path to becoming a teacher with the Troops to Teachers program. There is an admission charge except for members of the military. Contact Clayton Allen at crallen1@fcps.edu

Locker Assignments
LBSS continues to grow and we now have one of our largest student groups that we have had in years! If your student is willing to give up a hall locker for this school year please submit that information via this link. If you have questions/concerns please email Ms. Eileen Hoppock (enhoppock@fcps.edu).

Administration Team Meet and Greet and PTSA Fundraiser
We've been virtually introducing you to various new members of the Lake Braddock Administration team throughout the summer. Now is your chance to meet them and the rest of the dedicated team members in person! Our administrative team will be hosting a Meet and Greet event to connect with our students, parents and families. Meet them at Coal Fire in Burke on Wednesday, August 14 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

After you say "hi", take a break from cooking that evening and grab a table to dine in or order for take-out delicious pizza, pasta or sandwiches. Coal Fire will donate 20% of your dinner bill to our LBSS PTSA. Just present your server with this flyer (hard copy or from your mobile device).

We hope to see you there!
