I hope this email finds you and your child well and that summer vacation has been enjoyable thus far. In the past two weeks, I have been able to meet with many of our families in the Luther Jackson community to better understand how we can support your student(s) this coming year. Hearing from and meeting with you has been a wonderful experience and I look forward to our continued partnership. Additionally, our staff and LJMS has been working very hard to finalize plans for the 2019-2020 school year. Please be assured that your student will be in outstanding hands when they enter the doors at Luther Jackson on Monday, August 26. A mailer is being sent with more details as we near the start of school.
At Luther Jackson, we will communicate with you via email, telephone, SMS (text) and the U.S. Postal Service. We will use the FCPS News You Choose for "non-critical" e-mail communications such as events, news updates, and other topics. If you have any updates or changes to your contact email and/or phone numbers these can be made online through weCare@School, a feature of FCPS 24-7 Learning (Blackboard) or contact the student services assistant in our office at 703-204-8122. The first day of school is Monday, August 26, 2019. Classes begin at 7:30 a.m. and end at 2:15 p.m. Students should arrive at school no later than 7:20 a.m. and no earlier than 7:00 a.m.
Supplies and Lockers:
Please visit our website https://jacksonms.fcps.edu/ for an updated supply list. Students may receive a list of additional items from their individual teachers during the first week of school.
Front Office Summer Hours: M-F, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
Student Services Summer Hours: M-F, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
 Wednesday, August 21, 2019 – Tiger Time, 3:00-7:00 p.m. This is not a required event, but we welcome you to attend. If you come, both parents and students must attend. You can come anytime between 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., and should plan to stay about 30 - 60 minutes. You may want to bring multiple checks for payments. Cash is also accepted. Here is what you can do at Tiger Time:
- Pick up, fill out mandatory forms, and get a head start on the school year.
- Bring medications and doctor's orders needed for the school year.
- Buy your student’s PE uniform.
- Put money on your student’s lunch account.
- Sign up for our PTA and meet new PTA Board members.
- Sign up for ParentView
- PICK UP YOUR CLASS SCHEDULE if all required forms are completed.
Thursday, August 22, 2019 - Orientation, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Orientation is for new students (all 7th graders and new 8th graders). Students can get their schedules at this event or at Tiger Time. If students do not attend these events, they will receive their schedules on the first day of school.

Please be sure to tell your student to bring his/her class schedule to orientation if they have already received it.
- This orientation is for all rising 7th-grade students and 8th-grade students who will be new to Luther Jackson.
- Students will have the opportunity to walk through their schedules and meet their teachers.
- Students will not have access to their lockers so they should bring only a pencil or pen with a few sheets of loose-leaf paper.
