WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: BACK TO SCHOOL
August 8th, 2019
Dear SCMS families,
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!
The first day of school is Monday, August 26th. Classes begin at 7:30 a.m. and dismiss at 2:15 p.m. each day. Please take a few minutes to read this entire newsletter to help you understand the events taking place over the next few weeks which will help you prepare for the upcoming school year.
For those of you who are new to SCMS, please note that the basic information, class schedules and forms for the beginning of the school year are not mailed home. There are 6 forms that must be signed by students and parents and returned to school in order to receive a locker. 5 of these forms may be printed from the SCMS website, https://southcountyms.fcps.edu/. Transportation will send out information about bus schedules the week before school starts.
Class schedules and copies of transportation information will be available at Mustang Roundup the evening of August 21st. In order to receive a locker assignment we require the return of 6 signed forms:
- After School Registration form (link on our web page) this acts a permission slip for any after school activities including play/music practice, clubs and teacher help sessions.
- Health Information Form (link on our web page)
- Parental Permission SOL Retake Form (link on our web page)
- Digital Tools for Students 13 and Under (link on our web page)
- Academic Integrity (link on our web page)
- Emergency Care Card – available at the Mustang Roundup. Please check the pre-printed information carefully, make updates if necessary, sign and return with the other forms.
Mustang Round Up and Locker Night
Wednesday evening, August 21st. The Mustang Roundup is an opportunity for students to pick up their class schedules and a copy of transportation information and the pre-printed emergency care form in the cafeteria.
7th grade students should come between 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
8th grade students should come between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
If all the required forms from the information packet are completed, the student (both 7th and 8th grade) may be issued their locker (in the gymnasium), practice opening it, and are allowed to leave personal items in lockers. Students who are not able to attend the Mustang Roundup will be able to turn in the forms the first week of school to obtain their locker information. On the first day of school all students’ first period class will be posted in the hallways. Students who were not able to pick up schedules before the first day of school will go to that first period class where all students will be given a copy of their schedules.
New Student Orientation
On Friday, August 23rd from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. all 7th graders and students new to SCMS can attend the New Student Orientation. Students will follow their assigned class schedule and meet their teachers, counselors, and administrators. Parents will not be able to accompany students to their classes but may attend our MS 101 Parent Orientation in the Cafeteria. Due to budget constraints we are unable to offer bus transportation to this event.
MS 101 Parent Orientation
On Friday, August 23rd from 8:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. all parents of 7th graders and students new to SCMS are invited to attend an overview of how SCMS functions and how they may contribute to their student's success.
