New Assistant Principal

Meet Twain's Special Education Assistant Principal

Tamara Stickler is excited to begin a new adventure here at Twain Middle School supporting students with diverse learning needs as our Special Education Assistant Principal. Mrs. Stickler joined Fairfax County Public Schools in 2011 as a Special Education Teacher at West Springfield High School where she taught mathematics and Personal Development. Over the last 6 years, she was the Special Education Department Chair leading a department of 40 staff and working closely with school leadership.

Mrs. Stickler earned her BA in Family Science, with an emphasis in Social Work, from Brigham Young University in Utah. She initially worked as a Social Worker for Matthew’s County and the local Community Services Board. While working with families she realized that education was the area where she could best support students that had both academic and emotional difficulties. As a result, she began her teaching career in 1998 at Gloucester High School teaching students with intellectual disabilities while earning her teaching credentials from Old Dominion University. Mrs. Stickler then moved to Lancaster High School, in Lancaster, VA where she taught students with disabilities. Mrs. Stickler earned her master’s degree in educational leadership from American College of Education.

Tammy and her husband currently reside in Fairfax County with their youngest of three sons and their five-year old Jack Russell terrier.
