summer

Mrs. Riley and I are pleased to announce that Dr. Meredith Mitchell has been named the new assistant principal for Stenwood Elementary School.  Her official start date will be August 1, 2019.  Dr. Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, and a Master of Teaching degree in Elementary Education from the University of Virginia.  In addition, she received her PhD in Education Leadership from George Mason University.

Dr. Mitchell’s roots run deep within FCPS and also at Stenwood.  She attended FCPS schools, namely Navy ES, Hunter’s Woods ES, Carson MS, and Thomas Jefferson High School.  In addition, she began her career at Stenwood as a kindergarten teacher and later progressed to teaching fifth grade at Stenwood.   At that time, you may have known her as Ms. Green.  Dr. Mitchell went on to expand her teaching repertoire and taught science and mathematics at Holmes Middle School while she pursued her doctorate degree from George Mason University.  Fortunately for Stenwood, three years ago, we were able to recruit Dr. Mitchell and have her return to Stenwood where she has played a pivotal role in supporting mathematics instruction.  She has worked to sustain high levels of student performance.

We are so happy that Stenwood will continue to benefit from Dr. Mitchell’s dedication and many years of experience, only now in the role of assistant principal.  Please join us in welcoming Dr. Mitchell…Stenwood’s wonderful, new assistant principal!

Enjoy the remaining summer days, and I now leave you in the great care and leadership of both Principal Riley and Assistant Principal Mitchell!  All the very best to you.

Sincerely,
Principal Dammeyer
Assistant Principal Riley
