 Happy Summer Lemon Road! I sincerely hope your summer is in high gear – full of relaxation, family time, swimming, trips, and reading. Don’t forget to send a photo of your child reading to Ms. Burke at goburke@fcps.edu. She uses them for a bulletin board in the fall as well as features the photographs on the internal news show. All children are also encouraged to complete the read board sent home the last few weeks of school. If you lost yours, feel free to email me and I can share additional copies.
We have a lot of exciting upgrades taking place this summer. Right after school let out, an Eagle Scout Troop came in and added an exciting addition to the Creepy Crawlers courtyard – a beautiful reading nook! Our students will enjoy this quiet space to read and discuss the great outdoors this fall. In remembrance of Alexander, Rosalie, and Isaac Mejia, a free library was constructed and installed in front of our school. Be sure to stop by this summer and beyond to take a book or donate a book to our community. Lastly, our SCA officers in collaboration with Mr. Hickman and Ms. Benson helped repaint the map on our playground – it looks bright and colorful and is ready to welcome back our students this fall.
Coming later this summer include new welcome carpets in our lobby, additional interior signage, a water refill station in the cafeteria, and an expanded playground! The Lemon Road custodial team has done a marvelous job starting the process of cleaning the building and getting everything spotless before our students return. Clearly we are hard at work gearing up for the best school year yet.
Also later this summer, I will share names and information about new teachers and staff to Lemon Road – we have hired amazing new faces to be part of the Lemon Road family.
Thank you to our PTA and the families who joined last night's Kindergarten Play Date! Even though we were inside, we had a great time getting to know each other.
