Freshman/New Student Orientation
All freshmen and transfer students are invited to attend orientation on Thursday, August 22, 2019. The students will learn about McLean High School, have time to meet with their counselor, and walk through their schedule with their Big Mac (student mentor). This experience will help them be better prepared for the first day of school. We will provide more information later this summer with more details. However, the orientation will start at 9:00am for students and run until 12-12:30pm. A bus pick-up schedule will be released in late July or early August.
On the evening of August 22nd, we will have a meeting for freshman and new-to-McLean parents in the auditorium beginning at 5:00pm. This meeting will last approximately one hour.

AP Boot Camp
AP Boot Camp is an interactive leadership conference where students discuss and practice the qualities required for success in AP classes, college and in the corporate world. AP Boot Camp is designed for 10th, 11th and 12th grade students who are enrolling in their first AP class in the fall.
July 22 - 25 - 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
This event will focus on developing five attributes: Teamwork, Communication, Organization, Reading, and Problem Solving (T-CORPS). This hands-on, cooperative team-building program will actively engage students in the development and use of these skills, while demonstrating their importance to AP-level rigor.
Boot Camp has four goals:
- Introduce students to the unique academic challenges of AP coursework.
- Guide students in skill development with focus on teamwork, communication, organization, reading, and problem solving.
- Discuss the practical application of these skills inside and outside the classroom.
- Provide opportunities for students to develop a support network with their peers.
