We ended the 2018-19 school year with a fabulous Learning Celebration. Here our students in Grade 1 shared their year of learning with the entire school family.
What's Happening at Mount Eagle
June 14, 2019
Thank You for a Great School Year!
As we close out the 2018-19 school year, there are many success to count. Our preliminary SOL results in math, reading & science show that we are fully accredited. This year, we were one of two schools in Virginia to host a Food Corps service member. In addition to teaching lessons and supporting tastings in our cafeteria, Jordan Neri led the expansion of our gardens to include seven raised beds with vegetables. We will continue this program next year with a new service member. Our amazing teachers continued to grow as professionals. Classroom teachers Katie Keier and Melanie Henry completed a year-long intensive training in Reading Recovery, a program designed to support early readers. And, of course, we saw incredible gains with our students. As we reflected on our Problem Solving Assessment in math, we saw more and more students demonstrating flexible thinking as mathematicians. They could "adjust" numbers to make them easier to compute multi-step problems. We saw many students jump several levels in reading as they surpassed a year's growth. A huge factor in that growth is attributed to independent reading, both at school and home. Thank you families for all your support and continuing to be our teaching partners!

New Kindergartners: Where are You?
If you have a child who will turn 5 before September 30, please contact Mount Eagle as soon as possible to register him/her for school. You don't have to have every piece of documentation at the same time. If you know of a family, friend or neighbor that has a school-age child, please help us by reminding them to register as soon as possible. Spread the word! Our school number is 703-721-2100. The sooner we have the information, the sooner we can ensure we have the appropriate staffing and supplies. And if you know of any other new families moving to the area over the summer, please send them to Mount Eagle as soon as possible. Don't wait until August! Thank you!

Your Partners In Education
We are honored to work with your family this year and will work everyday to ensure a safe and positive learning environment for your child. We can't do it alone. Please contact us when there is a question or concern, especially related to bullying. As a parent, you will often hear about something before staff might. Thank you for all your support.
